Very interesting, I’m quite surprised by that for the 172H. Looks like it’s all Ti/SiC on that model. Wonder what they saw in the testing.

Everything. Seriously. I’m using a Met MGL HG on the rod. Rod is great for topwater, ripbaits, cranks, single hook and bottom contact. It’s my favorite rod and the winner of the search for one, imo.
I use the rod for everything in its weight range, but my favorite techniques to use with it are ripbaits (Vision 110), jigs (dark sleeper) and swimming senkos.
I’m debating on getting another and/or adding the 610M, if it’s the same rod, but 4 inches longer.

Glad I saw this thread; I was preparing to order the 72h. I'm very happy with my glorious models, and while they weigh the same (both 120g), the 72h glorious is rated regular fast versus the ultimata's fast taper. I guess I'll have to wait for the new model

I have a few Ultima rods, one of them being the 172H and they are incredible. That new grip and blank on the 172H has me thinking about getting another.

are the ultima rods for the most part two piece rods once you get over 7' ish ? is it the detachable handle deal if so, for those who own some of the models

Yes to both questions. The rods 7' and over are two pieces with a detachable handle.

Kazu at JPangler has been great for finding rods like this at a great price/shipping.

It’s not out yet. The 2020 172H release is scheduled for the end of April. Kazu can hook you up.
