Toray M40X (Kaleido Extreme, Conquered Air, & Exsence)
Toray M40X (Kaleido Extreme, Conquered Air, & Exsence)
Thanks to Cranky, here's Toray's spec sheet on M40X with an infographic comparing M40X to existing CF https://cs2.toray.co.jp/news/toray/en/n ... 430009633B
So far, I've found info on these M40X launches:
The 2020 Evergreen Kaleido Inspirare, including the Black Raven "Extreme" https://www.plus-fishing.com/en/blog/br ... shing-fest
Daiwa's Conquered Air Master AGS https://www.daiwa.com/jp/fishing/item/r ... aster_ags/
Also, Shimano seems to be bringing M40X to the Exsence line (great strength-test video inc.) http://fishing.shimano.co.jp/product/s/ ... -core.html
I also found ZeroSum X4 Succession, but couldn't find any info on bass offerings.
If anyone has any info on likely release dates or other brands (especially Luxxe!) bringing M40X to market, please post.

Hey, if i'm correct, the 172H 2020 poison ultima has m40x incorporated in it's blank.
http://fishing.shimano.co.jp/product/rod/3533
All the way at the bottom at the 'Features' section I found this, "High elasticity ・High-strength material “Torayca® M40X” * (172H, 2610L-S)".

Thanks - that's a really excellent find, benjlwq! That was stuck in the weeds. So, Shimano is launching in Exsence and it appears Shimano-Jackal has already launched in 2020 Poison Ultima 172H.

Katsutaka Imae told me on Instagram that the Black Raven Extreme will be delayed to at least august this year, due to Covid-19.BassKat wrote: ↑Sat Apr 18, 2020 8:32 pmThe 2020 Evergreen Kaleido Inspirare, including the Black Raven "Extreme" https://www.plus-fishing.com/en/blog/br ... shing-fest

At the moment, he is also testing a new solidcarbon-blank spinning rod, called "anchi pokkie". The rod seems to have a T1100G core with M40X at the "berry" and 33T Carbon at the tip. Unfortunately he seems to struggle a lot with fragility of the rod.
Also there are rumors about M50X Carbon from toray
https://www.imakatsu.co.jp/blog/topsecret/2663/
Here is a video where you can see a possible prototype of this rod (the girl is using it): https://youtu.be/8YpNEnEWpXw
Can't wait that the new "Top Secret" DVD is released at the end of this month. There will be a lot of information about his upcoming rods!
On Instagram Imae also talks about a new "woodpeckerM40X" spinning rod, which could be the same solid core rod. We will see....

Thanks for the outstanding contribution, fishinblack!
Looking back at the strength-sensitivity relationships of the Toray J-series, it seems that the M40J - M55J carbons represented the best tensile modulus gains before additional gains resulted in a more aggressive curve in strength loss. So, it seems that perhaps the carbon in the M40X to M55X range may represent the best window of performance as to strength, with perhaps M50X representing the very best buy point.
Please keep us posted as you follow this in general and the "Top Secret" DVD. Really appreciate your sharing this info!

There are lots of other relevant material properties not represented in that one graph and how things translate into a fishing rod is more complicated than a single material spec. If you’re trying to “time the market” as to when certain unreleased materials will be put into rods and launched, I’d recommend not overthinking it and fishing what fits your budget within a reasonable time of what’s available or confirmed to be coming soon. There are endless materials and prototypes that never materialize in the general market. It’s a great time to be in the high end JDM market but there will always be the next best thing coming soon.
Re: Toray M40X (Kaleido Extreme, Conquered Air, & Exsence)
Great points, Cranky. The existing stuff built on T1100G and M40J is beyond exciting. I haven't been able to find any "advertised" usages of higher than M40J (Phenix Ultra MBX), such as M46J - M55J, but I really haven't dug that deep. Lots of great stuff out there NOW, no question.

Re: Toray M40X (Kaleido Extreme, Conquered Air, & Exsence)
Years ago I had an 85M modulus rod and broke it three times. It was also less sensitive than many of my current lineup. Suffice to say rods are complex composites of multiple materials and can be completely transformed by resin content/type and mechanical layering, orientation, staggering etc. It’s very impressive how complicated some of these blank constructions really are, take a look at the Evergreen Rapid Gunner for example, lots going on there in a dynamic system when it’s loaded up to varying degrees.
I’m constantly amazed how sensitive a T1100G tip is even when compared to older, much higher modulus materials.
I’m looking forward to seeing what Imae and other similar R&D folks come up with next but I’m not interested in fishing an Expride or e6X while I wait for better and better high end rods to come along, riding the ride is more fun.

Most excellent post. None the less, I'm not buying any more rods until 2030Cranky wrote: ↑Mon Apr 20, 2020 11:44 amThere are lots of other relevant material properties not represented in that one graph and how things translate into a fishing rod is more complicated than a single material spec. My Phenix blanks I find great. They do everything I could ask for. The problem is that we all have a severe sickness, a longing obsession with no cure. I'm okay with that. I've spent my money on worse things, believe that. As far as introducing these new prepegs into some blanks available for rod builders - my guess is that Phenix will be the first, should it happen.BassKat wrote: ↑Mon Apr 20, 2020 11:55 amGreat points, Cranky. I was looking for a rod to replace my MB Shorluck 7'6L and ran across the 2020 Olympic Silverado w/ 1100G and M40X in tow.
