Avail microcast spool

Post by chrisg_sdcf » Tue Aug 11, 2020 3:53 am

I'm looking at possibly buying an avail microcast spool for my 15 Aldebaran. Just wondering if it's necessary since I'm wanting it for finesse not bfs. 1/8 - 3/8 oz (1/8 plus plastic) is the approximate lure weight Im wanting to throw with it.

Stock spool will handle that weight range easily, no need for the avail spool.

Do you think the 18 Aldebaran 31 mgl or 51 mgl is worth buying to replace the 15 Aldebaran? I got the 15 Aldebaran for $100 in excellent condition but I keep looking at the mgl.

Is the 15 the finicky spool one? I've heard those are difficult. Still a solid buy at $100 if it is in good shape. Might be worth while to get a used deeper Avail spool just to get away from the stock spool if this is the one with the finicky casting. If not then fish it stock for those baits.

For $100 bucks id keep the 15, its a great little reel. The mgl is a bit easier to dial in and a bit less finicky but its not that big of a difference to justify the cost of a new reel. Either would handle the weight range you're looking to use with the stock spool.

But if you're like me curiosity will get the best of you and you'll get the mgl anyways...

That's what I'm worried about. Sometimes my curiosity causes me to spend money when I don't need to. I also have an 09 Aldebaran with a yumeya spool. I'm sure one of the two I already have will get the job done.

Its been a little finicky but I think it's probably user error, Ive only used the braking on the 50 series reels and 12 Aldebaran bfs.
