Certate handle

Post by zelmo » Thu Mar 11, 2021 11:59 am

I have a Daiwa Certate 2000 spinning reel from 2009 whose handle decided to take a swim without a life jacket. In order to get the reel working again I have thought of these options:

I can search for an OEM replacement handle. So far that search has not turned up anything, although I will admit I have not done a thorough search on Ebay. The Japanese tackle shops I have used in the past do not have one. Can anyone give me a lead on one?

I can try using the handle from another reel. While I know there are many handle options on baitcasters I don't know about spinning reels. Does anyone know if this is possible?

I can search for a used Certate and figure between the two I will have one working reel.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Hedgehog maybe? They have a pretty wide selection of spinning handles.

you can use a screw in handle from pretty much any other daiwa, or get an aftermarket handle from a company like gomexus, or some of the other companies that make them.

Thanks. I wasn't sure if the handles were interchangeable. That will probably be the best route.

I just posted for sale a few spinning reel handles. Maybe one fits your needs?

I found your posts but you say that you don't know what brand reel they came from. I don't see how we can be sure they will fit.

It appears that model has a “packing” washer/bushing between the handle and the screw mount. Not sure if yours went overboard with the handle or maybe it is still intact..?

Thank you, but that schematic is for the 10 model. I have the 2004 which does not have that packing washer.

Misunderstood your first post. I researched the 2000 size nearest a 2009 model. If your Certate is the model produced between 2004-2009, there is another site that may assist you in finding that model of Certate. Thea.com seems to be a place to find many used models of reels. Also, as previously mentioned, it might be a good idea to email the sites that make aftermarket handles to see if they have one compatible to your reel. Lastly, it might be time for a new reel...?

No problem, I appreciate your trying to help. I don't use a spinning rig much and this reel hasn't seen much time on the water so I really don't want to flat out replace it. I am starting to figure all of this out and I'm sure I can get a handle to fit. It may cost me a bit more than I was hoping to spend but that is the price of wanting good stuff.
