Millionaire Spools
Millionaire Spools
Hi all,
Round reel fanatic here, with about a dozen Millionaires, including CVZ103, Ringa, Bay Casting, 203. All lefties.
Gears - I’ve got stock gears on all and wondered if upgrading the gears to the alphas 7.2 is a weaker gear set or just as durable? Any other considerations?
Spools - I’m not seeing a lot of native spools available so I’m considering moving to the longer pin and using all the 34mm options. Any difference in performance? Aside from the pretty Ringa spools going in a box, any performance concerns or should I stay stock?
Broad questions from a relative newbie. Thanks all!

Hey Geoff, welcome to TT
As far as spools, the 103s have just about everything you could want from shallow bfs spools to long cast and sv options. I only had the Luna 103 and I put a 1016 spool from a t3 in it which transformed the reel. The ringa spool is much lighter than the luna so it really depends on what you are after? The 203s and larger don't seem to have many spool options however, my luna 253 is stock spool only for options.
The gear sets i have a lot of experience with, I had 7.2s in the luna and they were robust and stayed smooth. I have a millionaire ct which also has the 7.2s and they have remained smooth catching everything from 6lb bass to 15lb catfish. They run the same gears as the OG alphas which have been very well tested.

Re: Millionaire Spools
How does the R+ handle in this platform? I have a Monoblock I converted with a pinion support shaft and plan to toss 1/4 hardbaits on some spool paired to an old Destroyer F1.5 with either 20# braid or 8# mono
Re: Millionaire Spools
Is that the 6’3 MB rod for poppers? Sounds like a really fun combo you’re working on. I’m going to play with some spools in mine and see if I can get some comparisons that make sense.
Re: Millionaire Spools
Thanks for the feedback. I may bump a few of mine to the faster gears. I have a Luna 253 for my Hudd rod and since it’s pretty single purpose I have it dialed in well. Need to play with the others and get those spools and speeds lined up.ss30378 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 21, 2021 8:59 amHey Geoff, welcome to TT

Re: Millionaire Spools
Aside from the spool, is there any difference in the CVZ103 and 105? Can the 105 be modified in the same ways?
Re: Millionaire Spools
You know, I'm not sure but it is parabolic so its going to be my fun small topwater rod. Might do some ned rig stuff too if it can handle it.

Re: Millionaire Spools
I've always been curious how different 34mm spools run in these older round reels. Has anyone played around with spool swapping? Any of the SV spools, newer Zpi and KTF 34mm spools? I've always wanted the I'ze light - the red one.
Re: Millionaire Spools
I don’t have the Ize but am starting to play with one of my Ringas. I’ll run some ZPI and other Daiwa 34mm spools and compare to the stock. Might be a bit, but I’ll try to relay what I find.Hogsticker2 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 21, 2021 2:43 pmI've always been curious how different 34mm spools run in these older round reels. Re: Millionaire Spools
I couldn’t remember the ones you show here but should be fun. There is a P5 that is 6’3 and 1.5 that seems somewhat similar.

Re: Millionaire Spools
Same identical reels, except the 105 spool has lower line capacity. CVX and CVZ models are the same, as well, except the CVX has 3 less bearings. The longer pinion shaft will work on any of them to run TDZ/Steez spools.
Try not to let your mind wander. It is much too small to be outside unsupervised.

Thought so. Thanks for confirming!!!hoohoorjoo wrote: ↑Thu Dec 23, 2021 12:51 pmSame identical reels, except the 105 spool has lower line capacity. CVX and CVZ models are the same, as well, except the CVX has 3 less bearings. The longer pinion shaft will work on any of them to run TDZ/Steez spools.
Re: Millionaire Spools
I only have the Monoblock Grigio Stone. As I recall from short use a few years ago, the ZPI NRC001 performed less great than in my Steez/SV103 etc. I now regularly use the KTF spools in the monoblock and they are great.
