2023 Steez “Real Control” Rods
Re: 2023 Steez “Real Control” Rods
Thanks a lot cranky and NOLRAMB. Much appreciated!!
Re: 2023 Steez “Real Control” Rods
I was able to use the C73H-SV・ST, I have to say it's all over the NRX+ 873 CRR, to myself it's just as sensitive as my Black Raven Extreme, just much more powerful and longer.
I threw a few baits and was impressed by it's versatility, it can easily throw a spinner bait then turn around and throw a full size jig, I'm impressed to say the least.
A second one is on it's way.

How’s the solid tip itself? Is it pretty spongy? I’m normally not a fan of ST rods and had this been full tubular it would have been hard to pass up.
My S68MH is wildly sensitive and a blast to fish. It fit seamlessly into the starting rotation and I feel it’s a noticeable upgrade from the the RD and NRX+ models it replaced for similar applications. I’m still waiting to hear from someone who’s fishing the S61L, that seems to be the must popular model by far but I feel like it’ll be on the light side for my usual stuff… but after fishing the S68MH I’m taking a serious look at it.

To me the tip is pretty sharp, it's a perfect rod for bottom contact, yet versatile enough to use for some moving applications, it loads up real nice also, I played around with a 1/8 Picasso swim bait head with a 2.8 keitech just to experiment and it launched it pretty well even with 12lb fluorocarbon, obviously it depends on the reel though.Cranky wrote: ↑Sun Jun 11, 2023 5:03 pmHow’s the solid tip itself? It's a must to have in one's arsenal.
It's right between a Loomis MBR and a BCR action wise.

How much more powerful? Does it fish more like a typical medium heavy, or a true heavy?NOLRAMB wrote: ↑Sun Jun 11, 2023 2:41 pmI was able to use the C73H-SV・ST, I have to say it's all over the NRX+ 873 CRR, to myself it's just as sensitive as my Black Raven Extreme, just much more powerful and longer.

It's rated as a heavy, to myself the overall power is equal to the first generation Daiwa Bottom contact.

If you've fished the Steez '21 7'2" Heavy, any comparisons or differences?NOLRAMB wrote: ↑Sun Jun 11, 2023 2:41 pmI was able to use the C73H-SV・ST, I have to say it's all over the NRX+ 873 CRR, to myself it's just as sensitive as my Black Raven Extreme, just much more powerful and longer.

No I have not fished any of the 2021 steez rods, none of them interested me.

Re: 2023 Steez “Real Control” Rods
Any more reviews on these rods?
Re: 2023 Steez “Real Control” Rods
Does it excel at those other techniques outside of bottom contact or is it more of "in a pinch it does it well"?
Always learning...
Re: 2023 Steez “Real Control” Rods
It performs those tasks very well in my opinion

If you’re reading this because you have any interest in the S68MH just go buy it. I’ve had lots and lots of spinning rods over the years and it’s my favorite now. It’s exactly what you’d picture, a 68MH that is crazy lightweight, sharp, and best-of-the-best nails on a chalkboard sensitive.

Wonder how it compares to the new Poison Ultima.Cranky wrote: ↑Fri Aug 18, 2023 9:46 amIf you’re reading this because you have any interest in the S68MH just go buy it. Re: 2023 Steez “Real Control” Rods
My thoughts on that:
I have a M40X generation Ultima spinning rod that I have fished many many days/hours. This is not a slight against the Ultima, they are great rods and I enjoy them too.
There’s no Ultima model that compares 1:1 with the RC S68MH. The 7’ M isn’t the same type of rod at all.
The USDM Ultima’s aren’t really a new Ultima. There are lots of JDM models that are great too.
To me, $900 is an awful lot for an Ultima considering the USD/Yen conversion, and a 1 year warranty is irrelevant to me. It has to be a price tier above their Conquest rods and two above the NRX+… but it’s very easy to order a JDM Ultima and it’s usually delivered faster than domestic rods too.
I still think the Steez RC S68MH is the best spinning rod I have fished. I took a flier on this rod (pre-order) with no info/reviews to go on because it’s a MH. I previously owned the Racing Design S67ML+ For reference too.
I’m looking forward to the Evergreen Spider Spin 611MH and whatever Daiwa 2024 release they have (the Real Control are a limited model).
The world needs more high end true MH spinning rods.
