Re: New 2023 JDM Reels
So is it confirmed that the new Conquest BFS has aluminum gears?

You would probably never see prostaff at iCast making videos with their competitors, showing off their new products, like this.

It could be something related to a lot of the tackle guys are still “mechanics”, not bean counters._diggy_ wrote: ↑Sat Jan 21, 2023 2:17 amhttps://youtu.be/NfVFETjhT08?t=189

YES!
I'm so happy to be wrong in my speculation of this new Conquest BFS reel. Now I just have to wait until one of my primary JDM reel retailers has a pre-order for two right handle versions.

Re: New 2023 JDM Reels
I was scared it was aluminum geared because of the weight, just no idea where they lost almost an ounce of weight off the 2021 version. I know there is 4mm removed from the handle, the spool is lighter, just not sure what else. I will be much more confident if it has brass though. I am excited to get a HG right hand one, but if it doesn't come out till April, it could be a while.

I'm glad the fear that this Conquest BFS reel had aluminum gears has abated and you, at least, have the option to go fishing whenever your new Conquest BFS reel shows up at your doorstep sir.DirtyD64 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 21, 2023 7:19 amI was scared it was aluminum geared because of the weight, just no idea where they lost almost an ounce of weight off the 2021 version. Unlike myself, where last season, I had to break a skim coat of ice at the boat launch on the flowage where my lake cabin is located at and that was on May 6th, e.g., the day before the Wisconsin Fishing Opener! I hope we get ice out as predicted in mid-April this season, but I'm not getting my hopes up too soon.
Instead, I'll patiently wait for both my preferred JDM online reel retailers to accept pre-orders for the right-hand Conquest BFS, and then I'll finally have a two BFS reels worthy of my two Sedition SDC-702ML Cristobal Limited casting rods!
Good luck with your JDM reel search!

I am going to wait, hoping the JPY falls again (have heard it won't). Also, will have to match a rod for this one. For now, I plan to use it on a ML with 7lb or less fluorocarbon, but who knows. 90 days or so I can build my fishing fund to prepare a big JDM order.City17Banner wrote: ↑Sat Jan 21, 2023 8:57 amI'm glad the fear that this Conquest BFS reel had aluminum gears has abated and you, at least, have the option to go fishing whenever your new Conquest BFS reel shows up at your doorstep sir.DirtyD64 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 21, 2023 7:19 amI was scared it was aluminum geared because of the weight, just no idea where they lost almost an ounce of weight off the 2021 version. Re: New 2023 JDM Reels
We can always hope the Yen goes down in value again but considering that it hit a 32-year historic low last October I don't think there's much chance of it dropping too much lower unfortunately. I just bought a Yamaga Blanks Blue Current 6'9" BFS rod to give it a try as well as my two Sedition Cristobal Limited ML rods so we'll see which reel/rod combinations work out best.DirtyD64 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 21, 2023 2:38 pmI am going to wait, hoping the JPY falls again (have heard it won't).
