Best spool for Millionaire (the 103, 34mm platform)

Post by kakaryan » Thu Jul 20, 2023 1:54 am

I used to fish my Millionaires a lot back then (I'ze Light, Ringa SSS, Monoblock...) before I converted to DCs which outcast them.

When I still do fish them I loved the following spools and found them to be best for the following weight classes: IS finesse for baitfinesse, SV105 for finesse to general purpose, and the SSS spools for heavy baits and long cast.

Recently I find myself interested in them again which I would like to dig them up, with some further tuning, and fish them again. It has been like almost 10 years so I believe there would be some other better spools to date. Lets share.

I still have a NIB ZPI M spool which probably work and I should try. :big grin:

A while back, I played around with spools in my CVZ and found the ZPI NRC M spool to be the best combo of distance and control.

Type R+. New plastic pinion poker from an Alphas or something to center the spool in the frame.

I use the SLP1010 inside my SSS the most. Pretty much good for everything.

What weight range does the M spool cast? I guess from 5g up? :D

Not sure in that platform, but I have one in my Steez SV TW. I can cast 3/32 no problem... With the right rod of course. Could be a good option, but the PG might work better as it's not as fast. The 1010 mentioned should be good, and the KTF 34mm Neo might be good too.

Now that I think about it, it was a PG spool. ](*,)

I never tested anything light on it, probably around 1/2 oz.

ZPI NRC001M is good in that reel (mine is a monoblock) and goes as low as in other reels.
Personally, I mostly use a KTF neo finesse, fluorocarbon line and 3-5 gram lures.
