What's the most you would pay for a used rod?
What's the most you would pay for a used rod?
I saw a rod on frakebrooch group for over $400. The rod was introduced in about 2005 by one of the Big 5 JDM rod companies. It appears to be in excellent condition.
Not for investment purposes or antique value but to actually fish with.
Just curiosity.
Thanks

I know those who've paid double that or more for some of the UFM Ueda models in excellent condition.

What is the specific rod and someone can give you an idea of the value.Johnny A wrote: ↑Wed Dec 13, 2023 5:30 pmI saw a rod on frakebrooch group for over $400. The rod was introduced in about 2005 by one of the Big 5 JDM rod companies. It appears to be in excellent condition.

There are some niche brands that regularly go for around 1.5x retail (Casket/Anglo @ 1k+) or DRT's that go for 2-3X (@2-4K) For the most part, these are fished.

Those sold new for around $380 and it's not particularly special rod. Here is a recent sale on Yahoo Japan. $140, granted you have to calculate in shipping.Johnny A wrote: ↑Thu Dec 14, 2023 4:50 amThe specific rod is an EVERGREEN Temujin Spin Cobra TMJS-63MHAquaftm45 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 14, 2023 4:34 amWhat is the specific rod and someone can give you an idea of the value.Johnny A wrote: ↑Wed Dec 13, 2023 5:30 pmI saw a rod on frakebrooch group for over $400. Re: What's the most you would pay for a used rod?
I put mine up on group ASKING for $225 shipped in the US. I would probably keep it if it were 6'8" or a bit more. My local pond is clear with very little combat casting.
The only issue is a dirty handle. If it bothers somebody they can clean it. I think the cork is quite good.

Re: What's the most you would pay for a used rod?
Depends on condition and how hard the rod is to acquire
Mostly what it’s worth to me. Sometimes you’re paying for ownership of something that doesn’t come around much.
Sometimes I want a specific rod and if it’s better to have it built I will go the custom route. Everyone has a price and a limit
Just got to know what yours is.
However Just like the post above it pays to do research

First Gen Fenwick Techna-AV, maybe $350 if it's the length I am looking for. I've purchased/sold used surf rods for close to $400. There are vintage Fenwick USA made HMG rods out there that are highly valued because their specific tapers have not been reproduced. All depends what a specific rod is worth to an individual.
Re: What's the most you would pay for a used rod?
The only used rods that i'd be willing to shell a decent amount of $$$ for is the Megabass line of rods from the mid 2000's, and that's because they all look like pieces of art, not fishing rods.
Re: What's the most you would pay for a used rod?
For a used rod I would only want to pay about 50% of new retail
Re: What's the most you would pay for a used rod?
Whelp...evidently, it's $425 for a nice pre-owned Evergreen TKIC Super Stallion.

Re: What's the most you would pay for a used rod?
Rods are one thing I won't buy used on-line. If I'm buying from a buddy and can fish it first then yeah I would pay up to original cost if I liked it enough and depending on how much it had been used. One rod I'd love to find again or like it, is the American Rodsmiths H3 Titanium 6'8" MXF. It was an amazing topwater rod for casting/working Spook Puppy up to Spook Jr. Loaded up great for casting the lighter topwaters and had a great backbone for leaning into fish. Caught some over the slot redfish on it and it handled them great. Rod was stolen last year. But buying used, it would have to be pretty cheap for me to buy without fishing it first.

I paid around $800 for a used Steez Racing Design Jigga Stick. And have paid in the $500 to $600 range for a few Designo Rods. All from auction in Japan, and no regrets. I use the Designo Rods all the time and absolutely love them.
