That is what I'm going for. This will be my rod for finesse bottom contact fishing, so I figured the rod should be able to sneak up on the fish like the presentationFishing4Fun wrote:Looks good, nice and stealthy!

I think so too. The fish will never know what hit them with that much stealth!IlliniDawg01 wrote:That is what I'm going for. My last 3 rod purchases have been custom builds. One was the MHX MBR 843 Hi Mod (Basically a power up from your rod). I can tell you that it an outstanding all purpose bass rod. I also had a rod built using the MHX 842 spin jig blank with poppers and jerkbaits in mind. With that said, the 842 you are using should be great for the same apps just lighter weight baits. Not a true BFS rod but sort of "Mag" finesse rod. I would expect it to be great for things right around 1/4 oz to 3/8 oz if it fishes like I think it would.

I love it so far, but obviously haven't taken it out on the water yet. It is shaped exactly how I Iike and looks how I like. I think it will be very grippy even when wet. I'm concerned it will get hot in the sun, but I supposed a quick dip in the water should cure that.Hogsticker2 wrote:What do you think of that grip? How do you like it?
On my last custom build I kinda of fabricated my own similar handle using the same loom they use for rod sleeves then coated it with epoxy. It looks and feels good but gets pretty slick when wet. I think this will be a better option with much less work to make. The internals are made of a kinda stiff foam that is very easy to ream out too which is nice when fitting it to a blank.

Sounds good. I plan to throw smaller jigs, shakey heads, smaller worms, and maybe jerkbaits on it. The hope is that it will be just as much fun as my Ugly Stik Elite UL to fish but with more backbone and a touch more sensitivity (the Ugly Elite is actually surprisingly sensitive though).Fishing4Fun wrote:I think so too. I'm pretty sure it is the 11.75" model. I think I technically have it mounted backwards of how they designed it.

Hi Dave!
It's a very nice and interesting buildup. Especially the windingchecks have a nice color and seems to fit perfect to the KDPS-nut.
Have you already testet the blank and could say something about the performance and best lureweight?

I haven't actually gotten around to completing it yet. Been busy most weekends. I have all of the guides in place with rubber tubing and have done some backyard casting. It is a pretty fast blank with great balance and good sensitivity I think. Should be perfect for smaller jigs and t-rigs and weightless plastics.

Hi Dave!
The MHX 842-3 has reached me yesterday. The blank seems to be very versatile and I think that the blank is a little bit stronger as a typical 1/2oz blank and more like a 5/8oz blank. I hope, that I will finish the blank till end of the month, to get a final impression.
I plan to build it up as boring like my 844-3 - but with a little bit shorter reargrip and possibly with a little bit smaller guides.
