My own designed reel cover

Post by oldgeezer » Thu Aug 09, 2007 7:20 am

Decided I did not want to pay upwards of $15. for a reel cover so I decided to make my own. My own design that probably cost me not more than $.50 to make after purchase of material. Easy to make and can put on reel in less then 10 seconds. Is lightweight and looks pretty good if I might say so-LOL. What do you think? This size will fit most low profile BC(Daiwa TDZ-105 is in picture) and working on a design for my larger round BC. Thanks and here is link to my shutterfly account-Just choose the "view slideshow".

Not to bad it just needs to cover the handle nut now..and also say daiwa on it.. :P I get my reel covers for 9 bucks from reelsseller on ebay and they are the sweetest, thickest covers ive tried so far. You have a good start though. 8-) heres some pics for you 8-)

Thanks for your input. Actually, I can also place the "legs" over the handle rather than under the handle if I choose to cover the handle nut. For future mods, I will extend the "pants" lower and shorten up the "legs"-LOL. Seriously, thanks for your recommendation. I also have one of those "true" Daiwa covers on one of my Zillions. It is as nice as you say it is. :)

I found it at a local fabric store(JoAnn Fabric).
http://www.joann.com/ Do a search on "headliner".
Cost is $10.99 for a 36x54 inch piece. I estimate that I can get approximately 36 reel covers as shown from this one piece. The purchase was discounted by 40% so doing the math is approx. $.18 plus some velcro. All that is needed is a set of sharp scissors, material, sharpie, and PATIENCE(LOL).

You spent more than $400 on a rod and reel, so why don't you spend $3.99 on a decent reel cover from Basspro and protect your investment. Sorry but I just dont understand. :?

Actually, I have previously spent $50. for 10 Shimano reel covers. Discovered that they do not fit all of my low profile baitcasters so I decided to make some "custom" of my own. Did not try to set out making something on the "cheap"-just worked out that way. Am disabled and gave me something "productive" to do and kill some boring time of which I have too much of.
