$400 Fish

Post by reelblues » Tue Sep 25, 2007 1:55 pm

Well, since this is "catch a good fish with good reel and cheap rod" day, I thought I would share a fish I caught in June this year. Also, we need to show old guys catch fish too. By the way, this fish went 8.02, in a lake that 5 to 6 lb. usually is big fish. This is about as big as they get around here. (Memphis, TN) Also, just learned how to post a pic. 8-)

Caught on a jig, 10lb floro, with brand new Curado on an unnamed cheap rod.

Hey, one of my best topwater rods is a Ken Cook 6ft2in. Lightning Rod. I dont think that it cost more than 45.00. They dont have to cost a small fortune to be effective

Ok, I'll come clean. It wasn't so much the rod as what action, a ML. It was a KVD Quatum, 6'3" ML. It was at the end of the day, and it was about the only setup I hadn't broke line or birdnested. We pulled up to a point, I tied a little jig on, and chunked. I can't believe I got it to the boat. Just goes to show, the fish don't know what you fish with. Actual, it is a great jerkbait rod, just the right action for me.

This was right at the time I started really getting interested in the JDM thing. I wish it had been the Brigandage. It has just taken me a long time to learn to post pictures.

Great catch. I hope to get one that size someday!

Not fishing much lately as the travel for work has picked up. It does however keep the monkey off my back.

Nice fish.

About as big as they get around there? You deffinately have better Largemouths in Memphis then we do in Detroit. Id say 6lb'rs are what most peoples big Largemouth are in my area. Our Smallies though have gone 7-8 on many occasions. You guys also have some nice Smallies down there.

Is this your new PB?

Game, this makes the third fish right at 8 pounds i've cought. Like I said, for around here, thats about it. Lets all get a trip up to El Salto and catch a 12. :D Or, go fishing with Cal on the Delta. Maybe he will supply the rods and reels. 8-)
