First power outing of 2011.

Post by dragon1 » Wed Apr 06, 2011 5:34 pm

Only my fourth trip out, but finally got into a power bite...too bad my Z2020H is in for its annual cleaning. It was windy with mostly cold and clear water with light colored sandy bottoms throughout most of the Q, but after three hours I found these girls nestled in the SW corner cove in darker water and emerging weeds...and they were in a nasty mood.

Caught eight from 2.5lbs to just shy of 5.75lbs and also tail snagged what I think may be the last Tiger Muskie in the Q...I fought this sub 36" fish for about 7 minutes but finally when I had him dragged on the bank, one last tail swipe sent my lipless flying back towards me. Was fun though watching this fish torpedo out of the water like a tarpon/barracuda when I first snagged it. I knew it was a blessed day when I also managed to entangle a mallard that flew into my looping line as my LONG cast was just settleing down on the other side of the cove...no harm no "fowl" however as a hard downward tug released it headfirst back into the water and untangled him at the same time.

Gear: Phenix Ultra MBX 7'7" MHF, Yozuri Hybrid 12lb Green, I'ZE Light 103, 5/8oz Yozuri Hardcore Vibe in green back/organge belly craw (matte craw).

A good day on the water is always great...but when you are pulling in a buncha pissed off fish, that makes it even better! Grats on your nice day!

Thanks gents...was really fun to persevere long enough to find them. Matter of fact, I took over this spot from a young teenager that walked out saying that "they just weren't biting today"...and within the first cast after he left it all started.

BTW, a couple of Russian fishers on the opposite side of the lake caught on to my business and "joined me" on the opposite side of the cove. They managed four LMB between them up to about 3lbs on lipless as well, PLUS, one super chunk smallie that was at least 4.5lbs on a white/shad chatterbait.

Blessed day indeed! 8-)

Very nice outing, and definitely making me jealous. I should be making my first outing in a couple of weeks. However, because of our regulations, bass does not open until the last weekend of June. Still, it will be nice to get out on the water.
