New Phenix done!

Post by Koldkut » Wed Sep 07, 2011 1:17 pm

Images did not auto-resize....you'll have to right click and view images to see the entire image on all of them.

It's done! 3.0oz even weight 7'6' medium heavy Phenix T46. ECSM seat skeletized, all cork grip with half the handle covered in x-wrap shrink tubing. TLSG5.5, TLSG5, TLSG4.5, TLSG4's to the tip, 10 guides plus tip(not here yet, I have an alconite micro on there now, the tip was not a size 4 as reported, it measures out to just a tic below a size 5 tube, so that's what going on there. Not sure when it will get fished, but I'd sure like to get it on the water to see how she does.

Trims wrapped all the same all the way up the rod

And for you balance guys, the only baitcaster I currently have is a citica201e7, so that's where my balance point it.

Nice looking rod, those new Phenix blanks look great. Give us a update after you've had some time on the water with it. If they fish as good as they look they'll be something special.

A custom, Phenix is not coming out with a factory T46 until next year. 3.0 oz is light, but I did not build it light, I added 1.5oz of components to it. I built a UMBX 700mh for Boondock, it started at 2.0oz and I added 0.84oz in components, but I went nuts with skeletizing the seat even more than I did on this one, and I put way less cork on it. Some of what I did was to add weight near the rear, and I may well end up with a 3.1oz rod once I get a label to put on it in the split area and finish over it. The next one may get the highly skeletized treatment to see if I can keep it under 2.3oz.

Very nice! Does the power really measure out to a "MH"?

Ya know, I don't have the experience of other builders, and I don't use the rda....much less know how it works, I am familiar with CCS though, but I did not measure it. I have a 6'6" MB783-mhx, and a batson ISB843, and the phenix tip felt heavier when flexed against the floor than either of those blanks. I did get a UMBX700MH in the other day, it felt a tad heavier, but hardly heavier than this blank. The difference in feel could be a result of the extra 6" of length over the 7' UMBX. it feels good in hand, the power feels good, after I fish it I will know more. I'd be interested in finding out the rda numbers myself so I could compare with what the others got.

remember when we had your reguide and my MHX weigh the same and my MHX felt heavier, event though the scale said they were in fact....the same. I think this 3.0oz will rival your 2.84oz rod in feel, time will tell.

If I can squeak a few casts on it tomorrow I will, I will be on some private, fly only, water......I doubt it, but the rod will be there for show and tell, and maybe some field testing.

With Pixzilla on there, the entire combo would weigh less than a Zillion reel. 8-)
