Enough with the tackle. LETS SEE SOME FISH!
Re: Enough with the tackle. LETS SEE SOME FISH!
A nice 7 lb. Speckled Trout from the bayou yesterday as the sun broke. I was using my Otterods Custom NFC Mag Bass 663 HM with a Metanium DC throwing a Black and Chartreuse Skitterwalk. She inhaled it!

^^ Awesome fish and awesome set up! Happy Thanksgiving everybody. I hope you are enjoying your time with your family
Went out for some bass action with Vision 110-JR. I thought they are called Megabass, not Megacarp . The carped inhaled it on the pause. Was pretty fun fight. F4-68X7 with FX68L Viola 12 pound Shooter FC Sniper.

Do Drums make more of a mess and smell worse than Bluefish?

About the same....both smell terrible, but the bluefish will lunge out of your hands and try to bite you, so it has the edge in "nasty".IAY wrote:Do Drums make more of a mess and smell worse than Bluefish?

Not sure what bluefish are, but these black drum get to nearly 10 pounds, and pull like a freight train. They leave nasty sloppy slime on everything they touch, but even when I'm on a mess of bass, I still have fun with them. They are very very easy to mark on a graph and catch in 20 or 30 feet of water on heavy jigs or blade baits....which for me is a riot of a good time when its high noon and the bass bite has shuf off.

I have caught enough of those on a drop shot rig to last a lifetime.Demoman wrote:Not sure what bluefish are, but these black drum get to nearly 10 pounds, and pull like a freight train. BTW, those are some nice bass!

A nice 12lb. Red I caught and released Friday afternoon. I was using an Otterods Custom built on a NFC MB664 IM blank with a Metanium DC HG. I was throwing an Egrets bait 3.5" Vudu Shrimp.

Matt, Very nice Rainbow and nice gear as usual!the hooligan wrote:Nice fish JD, how do you like the met DC ?
I got 3 Rainbows today, biggest at 17"
When I initially purchased the Met DC, I wasn't overly thrilled with it. I had some incredible backlashes due to operator error. I previously owned 3 Scorpion DCs and used them on really windy days and they were impossible to backlash. You could literally cast them directly into a 20 knot headwind, never thumb the spool and no loops or anything. They were idiot proof and worked well for throwing big Skitterwalks on windy days in tight narrow bayous. I've thrown baitcasters for 40 years now, but marsh/bayou fishing requires very precise casting in variable high wind situations. DC reels really shine in this environment especially when I'm throwing bigger plugs.
I tried to use the Met DC in a similar fashion as the Scorpion, but its braking profile is no where near as severe as the Met DC. I encountered some severe backlashes early on and almost sold my first Met DC.
I have now owned my first Met DC for about 4 months and have grown to really like it and have since purchased a second. I've learned the settings that work for me, and it will outcast the Scorpion DC by a mile and has great on the fly adjustment. It has the line setting for PE, Fluoro and Nylon like the Scorpion, but it also has an external wheel with an all around brake profile and then 4 down to 1 adjustment. On 1 with a slight tail wind, I can cast the rig I was throwing on Friday into the next zipcode. When turning and facing the wind, I can quickly dial back up to 4 and cast directly into the headwind with good distance. Or if I'm in a duck pond, I can dial up to A or 4 and make a precise cast right next to the salt grass where Mr. Red is waiting to crush my bait. It is a great all around reel for me and even throws lighter 1/4 oz baits very well.
I can see purchasing a third one in the very near future. I've since also sold all of my non DC Metaniums as they were not getting any use. I still use my stable of Aldebarans and Cores for lighter work but the Met DC is a workhorse for me and will see lots of time on the water this winter chasing Reds.
