what an awesome fish, like most albinos i would imagine it would be pretty tough to get to a decent size, sticking out from the crowd (or cover, in this case).
if it had stripes, it almost looks like a giant perch

Doesn't look like an albino-it doesn't have red eyes. More like leucistic.
Re: Largest Albino Bass?
That's nuts, I couldn't imagine my reaction to catching one of those!

I'd agree. Albino is white with pink eyes. Leucistic is a lack of dark pigmentation and can vary quite a bit. Melanistic is overabundance in dark pigmentation.Sonicx360 wrote:Doesn't look like an albino-it doesn't have red eyes. More like leucistic.
I like TD-Z's

Seem an "orange" bass on inchiban tackles page all the time and never knew what they were...Googled orange/yellow/gold bass and nothing...They're actually called albino bass
I will NEVER sell another 3:16 swimbait again!
Re: Largest Albino Bass?
That's the most amazing looking bass I've ever seen. Looks like a T+ Albino which lacks the red eyes and reduced black pigment. If it were lucistic then it would be all white with black eyes. T- Albinos are white with red eyes but this could also be hypermenalistic which is another form of reduced black. Regardless, one unique animal and it could spread its genes and produce more.

Re: Largest Albino Bass?
Hey Guys,
That bass was caught by a buddy here in Zimbabwe.
I communicated with Robert Montgomery,a senior writer with Bassmaster Magazine, who referred the matter to a biologist friend in Texas. The answer he got was :-
"Xanthic (yellow-gold) organisms are somewhat like melanistic (an unusually high amount of dark brown/black pigment), or albinos (that lack pigmentation), in that they are somewhat rare genetic abnormalities."
So the 5 pound bass is a Xanthic. Largest ever recorded.
Cheers,
Terry.
