Ah I see. It must be a special edition Type R. I thought those only came in yellow. I like the gen 1 Tatula Type Rs. The one I have has held up really well and with the addition of a Ray's "long cast" SV spool it is reminiscent of my 19 Zillion SV when working weightless plastics in that it skips about as well and both can offer casts longer than I can set the hook on 12-14# Sniper. I like the flat top and shape of these reels from an aesthetics perspective. They're a handsome reel. All the rounded ones that come after look like weird eggs. I use mine as a kayak reel doing thing like hooking baits onto the reel and laying it down next to other reels on the floor of the kayak and that paint has been super durable.

Don’t know why, sometimes we just plain stupid, with 3 of the Alphas SV TW 800 and 800s I have, some how I spent the same amount with lesser reel.

Can't go wrong with a Gen 1 Type R. Especially if you can get your hands on the limited edition ones

Just got a Tatula 80 and picked up a cheap carbon handle with long EVA knobs. Reel and handle was like $130 total. Reminds me of a mini Zillion HD.

I like the color and mag dial location on the Tatula 80 and 70 reels better than the silver and upsidown dial nub on my Alphas TW. I just wish my 80 spool was g1 duralumin like the Tatula Elite spool. That's just a Tatula spool but with lighter aluminum but it makes all the difference and suddenly become effortless to cast and light enough to be controlled when a bait is skipping. They always want to pair that spool construction to an Air Brake. Give us more g1 duralumin Magforce Z spools Daiwa.

I don’t have a newer Alphas to compare, but I love the little Tatula reels. They are little tanks, smooth as can be, and with a lighter spool are perfect reels for casting and pitching little tubes and jigs in New River.

Sweet. The tat 80 is the most surprising performer I've purchased in a long time. I hope they stay as smooth as they are now.

Same here. They have impressed me more than any other reels I've purchased in the last 4 years. Mine are over 2 years old, have landed so many fish, including some 8lb+ fish. If anything, they are smoother than day one.
