First date with the Monoblock 100XR

Post by dragon1 » Sun May 26, 2013 2:45 pm

Let me say firstly that this Monoblock 100XR that I just traded for with mike_honcho, is the smoothest operating and cranking BC that I have ever owned, used or handled (granted the Ian polished the internals)! Casts as well as my I'ZE with more line capacity, and more consistently in the wind. Truly exceptional and outstanding reel!

I am very afraid that I have taken on the Monoblock sickness & addiction...I am already looking for ways to procure another one!

The Rod is an Otterods MHX CB 907

A good midday top water chop is all that was needed, with some clouds moving in, nevertheless this was 1:15pm. Power top water fishing, 12lb moss green CXX, 70lb Owner Hyper Crosslock, MB Giant Dog X.

First fish ever on the 100XR...19" just shy of 4lbs on a Cabela's handheld spring scale. This fish fought hard and jumped several times trying to dislodge the bait, luckily I was able to keep her buttoned on.

That small "point" of reeds/cattails, is where she hit. Mind you, I was fishing on the opposite side of this point wading in about 1.5 feet of water and casting past it, into the wind so that I could work my lure back with the wind & chop. When this smallie hit, she came out of shallow water and actually hit the lure so hard, she cleared the water with it in her mouth and then dove down with it. At this point, I thought it was a large trout as all I saw on the jump was a white belly...I just kept reeling in until I felt weight and just swept sideways to set hook. The fight was tremendous and I didn't know exactly what I had on until she jumped again and I saw the color on her side.

Another smallie, about the same size that looks like she came to the end of her life cycle.

Super shallow bass casting to cattails on opposite shore

Good sized Pine snake (?)

Beautiful fish and congrats on that sick procure on the Monoblock Van!

I've always been into reptiles and I can tell you that, that is not a Pine Snake. It is a Bull Snake, which are very closely related to the Pines.

:big grin:

Van that combo is sick! The smile on your face says it all. Great photos of your days catch, thanks for sharing. I believe that combo will bring you years of joy, well done.

Congrats Van! Very sweet combo. I knew you couldn't go very long without a quality round reel but didn't expect the Ferrari you bought! :laugh1: When I saw all the bartering and trading you've been doing lately I kinda figured you were up to something. Sure picked yourself up a sweetheart.

Very nice bunch of bass you broke her in with, the smile certainly said it all, tell your wife it's suitable for framing. :laugh1:

Sick reel Van! Looks so nice I would have trouble fishing with it.
Mid day topwater is awesome. Well anytime but that's a sweet.

I always enjoy your posts, Van. Quality fish on quality gear is at the very core of what we enjoy and share here on TT. Congrats on the Monoblock acquisition. =D>

Love me some Bruce Lee.

True, but a 7'6" Heavy Powered moderate/fast top water rod would be awful tip heavy!

I have had a few good days on the water this year, but yesterday was special...especially having a small window to sneak out as my wife threw out her back on Friday, and our youngest has been running a fever since then as well. I have been at work and then playing "Mr. Mom" as well when I get home.

Thank you gents.

Welcome to the dark side. Yup Monoblocks are addictive. Gladly they have provided plenty of variations for curing this "sickness".
