BFS and Trout baitcast combos

Post by Dalleinf » Sat Dec 22, 2018 5:52 am

Please share your BFS and/or trout baitcast combos - I would love to see what you all are using for BFS bass, panfish, trout etc. And learn about your absolute favourite!!! :D

I have attached photos of some of my preferred combos. I often switch rod and reel but have used them all in various combinations to catch large trout and perch. For trout fishing and spinner/spoon/minnow lures, I mostly use the moderate to moderate-fast action rods. For perch and jig/soft plastic lures, I use the fast action rods, e.g. MC Volkey.
The MC N-One has probably caught me most fish. The Daiwa Wise Stream is a new favourite for trout. The ABU Salty Stage is a 5 piece travel rod that I have yet to use (seems similar to the N-One). Among the reels, I really love the Conquest BFS and the Daiwa Alphas Air Stream Custom - but they are all great =D>. I could include other rods and reels that are borderline BFS but will stick with the photos below for now...

Photos include:

G. Loomis IMX CR721 with Shimano Conquest 101HG (shallow Avail spool)
St. Croix LGCC66XLM with Shimano Conquest BFS (KTF spool)

Major Craft Volkey VKC 682L/BFS with Shimano Aldebaran 51HG (with KTF spool)
Major Craft Volkey VKC 692ML/BFS with Shimano Metanium MGl (with KTF spool)
- the 2013 Shimano Metanium with Yumeya BFS spool is also good here.

Major Craft N-One NSL-T782ML/BF with Daiwa Alphas Air

Major Craft Fine Tail B542UL with Daiwa Alphas Air Stream Custom
Daiwa Wise Stream 62LB-3 with Daiwa PX68L (with IZE spool) or PX68L SPR

ABU Garcia Salty Stage KRX Baitfinesse custom SBFC 745MLS-KR with ABU Morrum 1601 (with Avail spool)

:big grin: Yes, and the SS has a Steez SV105 spool, which makes it awesome.

What's that N-One like? Looks cool with that Alphas. I want to try one of those, too. Spool it up with 8# J-Braid and let the finesse cranks fly.

What line is that on the ASC? I just decided to go with 6# Invizx since the rod is rated 3-10.

Also, which two Volkey's are those? 68L and 65UL right? I love Major Craft. My T3/SV1000 is screaming for that MSX 610M/R for shallow cranks and jerkbaits.
This is the way.

The N-One is a fine rod for the price. Works great for large trout fishing with cranks/jerkbaits/minnows and spinners. It is spiral wrapped rod and according to TT reviews my T3s should not go on such rods - otherwise they would. The N-One would suit the SS SV and SV light ltd.

The Volkeys are the 682L and 692ML - I really like them for their lightness and looks. They are too fast for most of my treble-hook lure fishing but naturally work great for what the manufacturer intended

Many of my reels have Sufix Matrix Pro braided line in 8-10# test (0.12 mm), which I have on bulk spools. It is a cheap-ish braid, but it has worked great for me. I really like fishing with mono, but since it does not hold up wll and since I do loose more lures using mono, I mostly use thin braid. I have yet to give fluorocarbon a proper tryout- perhaps now is the time. Let me know how invizx goes with the ASC.

Great reel :D
I have been eyeing that rod a little while after you mentioned it in another post. It sure does fit the ASC and I am wondering if it would also suit my Megabass Monoblock Grigio Stone with ZPI NRC001m (does fine with 3 gram on the right rod).

Dont have mich time with it. It is stiffer thsn I am used to, as my trout fishing was done with an XUL rod

Sorry, haven’t seen a BFS show & tell or I forgot (!?). Keep it to trout baitcast combos then - that is what I fish for anyway \:D/

My BFS combos pull double duty as I fish the same set ups for both bass and trout. What makes BFS so special is the same set up can cast a tiny fly at a trout but still have the power to land big bass.

Beautiful combo. Thank you very much. Two questions - what rod is that? what lure did you get that big trout on, jig of some sort?
