I have the Proflex II and don't like it all but different strokes for different folks. I plan to sell mine ASAP, the tip is super light but to light and to fast for my taste. Maybe I will give it another try before I let it go.DirtyD64 wrote:Interesting... I figure I would go for the Light, I could leave the extra light lures to the Proflex 2, the solid tip is so soft it does this easily. I honestly love the Decoy Nail Bomb style jig heads, and the #1 or #2 with a small swimbait is a perfect lure. I figure both the 3" and 3.5" Easy Shiners will cast fine with a Light rod and the extra back bone of a Light will help set the hook. So far a Major Craft Light with a BFS reel will be my next. Just wish the Alphas Air was still for sale on Digitaka.Edward78 wrote:I have the Benkei L and UL and their Light rod is definitely on the firmer side of Light but I do like it, The UL is very nice and i use it for 1/8 and 3/16oz jerkbaits and 1/16oz Zman Chatterbait and 1/8oz jig heads with small plastics, but have noticed i tend to lean more towards a lighter power rod than most.

How much we talking? I wouldn't mind a second for backup. The tip just scares me that it is going to snap. I can fish the lures mentioned fine on mine. Using a Zillion SV TW with DIY and 8lb Sufix it works great for 1/16 to 1/8 small swimbaits.Edward78 wrote:I have the Proflex II and don't like it all but different strokes for different folks. I paid $58 for it and used it 1 time. You could have it for $45 shipped as long as you don't live to far away, Shipping can get high on rods.DirtyD64 wrote:How much we talking? Re: BFS and Trout baitcast combos
I’m interested in proflex ii as well. Is this good for crappie fishing? I don’t like the rod that is kind of noodleing. I have Daiwa spinmatic UL 7’ this rod can handle 2.9g lure pretty well but feel kind of too soft. I caught a 4lb bass with it though. If “dirtyd64” doesn’t want it LMK.
Re: BFS and Trout baitcast combos
I just recieved the Abu Revo Alc bf7 and have spooled it with 10lb/0.12mm Sufix Matrix Pro. It is on the Abu Salty Stage 7’4”, which is my only BfS/trout rod from Abu...colorwise it may be a better fit on some of my Daiwa rods, but...

Re: BFS and Trout baitcast combos
The Abu Alc bf7 seems to be a casting machine. Using the abovementioned “BFS” rod (1.5-18 gram lure rating) and a 2.6 gram spoon I challenged the 7 m/s or 15-16 mph wind head on. I had to set the brakes hard-ish, close to max, but still got 20 meter casts with no backlash. I will have to test the reel further and on other rods but so far it seems to be my “best bang for the buck bfs reel” (I paid 20.000 jpy).

Did you any magnets to your ALC ?Dalleinf wrote:The Abu Alc bf7 seems to be a casting machine. No, I actually only used the three magnets already installed. Maybe, probably, I can add some more magnets and turn down the brake settings. I have just installed ZPI bearings and will play around with the magnets/settings in the coming weeks.Edward78 wrote:Did you any magnets to your ALC ?Dalleinf wrote:The Abu Alc bf7 seems to be a casting machine. The extra magnets do help balance out the brakes but the reel is beast for sure.Dalleinf wrote:No, I actually only used the three magnets already installed. Re: BFS and Trout baitcast combos
Just added the Revo LTX-BF8 to the lineup, great real that is super smooth. Need to play with adjustments just a little more but overall a really good first trip out. I did swap the Orange Nut Retainer on just now and it is a perfect match to the Orange accents the reel seat has.

Very nice. A setup around the 200 gram mark.Craigthor wrote:Just added the Revo LTX-BF8 to the lineup, great real that is super smooth. Re: BFS and Trout baitcast combos
Got the Smith Be Sticky in 5’5”, which I will be comparing to the MC Fine Tail 542 this season. Visual inspection reveals a difference in guide number (10 v 7), but other than that both look good.
Maybe I will use the Met Mgl w KTF spool on the Smith rod simply because I gave my Shimanos far too little attention last season.

Re: BFS and Trout baitcast combos
Interested to see what you think of the Smith in the longer version.
Re: BFS and Trout baitcast combos
I really like the Smith. Used it for the first time today on cold trip to a local stream (w ACS, 0.10mm Daiwa JBraid, 5 gram Aliexpress/Yapada silver-grey spoon).Craigthor wrote:Interested to see what you think of the Smith in the longer version.
The rod gave me good precision and distance with above mentioned setup and some headwind.
Caught one 57cm/22.5inch slender seatrout, which put up a good fight despite post-spawn period. The rod handled the fish beautifully from hook-up to unhooking/release.
I await a Valley Hill ArcuStream 3’8” just to try a really short rod with lower carbon content, which should (?) be part of my final trout combo.

Re: BFS and Trout baitcast combos
Nice, have you seen the next iteneration of the BST that was released. SS-4 4’9” and 5’1” 4pc rods, though not sure I’ll bit as the reel seat is a turn off for me.Dalleinf wrote:I really like the Smith.
