That's an impressive backlash for that rig my friend.!

The lure caught a stalk of grass midway through my swing, right as I took my thumb off the spool. Disaster.

There are some bushes and tules surrounding the golf course lakes in back of the house. Once every few years I hit one on the follow through. I feel your pain. That kind of terrain makes you feel like you are on a reconnaissance mission in Vietnam when you are trying to sneak up on em in clear water .

Photo from this summer. I was writing an article for a fishing magazine on trout fishing in streams with UL baitcasters and all the pros/cons of baitcasters v. spinning tackle... then this happened when my 2g spoon caught the branch of a tree mid-swing. Only big-time backlash I have had with Alphas Stream Custom. I had to switch reels and unpick the birdsnest later at my work desk.

Ah dont ya hate when that happens.
I had a brand new $9 spinnerbait that on the first cast caught some brush behind me. The lure snapped off went 30 or so feet up and out in the lake.

I could use a machete over there, that's for sure. It's a golf course pond too. There are all these sunflowers around the parts not choked by trees, and if your line so much as brushes those, it sticks. And then it gets wrapped around the leaves and flowers when you try to pull it off and turns into a living hell pretty quick, lol.

I lost my Jackall Pop Grande that same way, in the same spot, probably on the same stalk. Didn't get a backlash, but that popper flew way out into the middle and I haven't seen it since. Need a 'yak.

Earlier this year I hit some small overgrowth near shore as I stood a few steps back skipping a jig. Picked it out in 8 mins or so with no kinks

Same story. The lure caught on this tiny stick coming out of the shore.

At least there's not much line to remove on the ASC lol!

That's true! And I had to because there was no getting it out. If I spool 40yd of 6#, I can do it five times on a spool of Invizx, which works out to about $4-5 per spool, so that's not bad at all. Guess I'll see how that setup handles 2.5# Shooter BMS now, though.

Yikes. I've got a similar picture somewhere, not quite that bad, but still pretty bad. I actually got it out pretty quickly. Braid can be much more forgiving provided you can avoid cinching down a knot in there somewhere.

Unfortunately it happens way to often. Wading small rivers with brush lined banks often leads to "hooking up" with something on the back cast. Always good to have 3-5 rods in the car.
