Fish from around the Globe

Post by Slazmo » Sat May 25, 2019 1:55 am

Thought of something a little different while arguing with 6' tall grass trying to get to my local bass haunt.

Show a fish or two (favourite or something interesting) of your country or region - throw in some specs of what you used to wrangle it on, technique and a couple pics of the area you fish...

Nothing special but would be great to see something from each corner of the globe.

So I'll start it off -

Australia - South East Queensland (Gold Coast)
Australian Freshwater Bass
2-5kg Shimano 3Zero Spin (7')
Shimano Stradic 2500 F Ci4
Varvias Light Game 10lb - Vanish 9lb FC Leader
Megabass Pagani Grand Siglett (Colour: Abura Zemi)

Technique - basically urban / semi rural freshwater creek, very dense vegetation on either bank and deep on the far side from where I'm on being shallow. Casting into overhanging vegetation / trees and working the lure subtly to pauses from the cast to bring interest. The creek being so clear yesterday you could see the fish power out from cover to the lure and inhale it.

These fish are few and far between in certain creeks and times, pressure from angler's, creek destruction, lower water quality and inability to migrate up and down the creeks due to flooding moving rock bar's etc. The more successful times are during summer months and dieing down in numbers towards winter due to migration and lower food availability of insects, frogs, lizards and other foods and moving to spawn towards the saltwater.

These bronze battlers grow upto around 50cm but everage about half that in most numbers.

A rough idea of the freshwater creeks around here.

The driftless area trout are my target I prefer to chase aggressive browns when they are feeding.

Tenryu Rayz 53ULB 5’3” UL Casting BFS Trout taper
Abu Garcia Revo LTX-BF8
Varivas Sight Edition in 6lb variety
Smith Panish 85SP in Rainbow Trout

Driftless area streams running though pastures of old glacial runs with a variety of depth and flows.
