Zander's first Pixzilla (light)

Post by Cal » Fri Jun 05, 2020 3:46 pm

Last week, while Zander and I were prepping for a day out on the water, we were going through our gear selections for the next morning. He pulls out his reel bag where he has several spares packed away. In the corner of that bag, I noticed a familiar profile and pulled it out - it was a Pixy. He gave me a look and told me he doesn't fish it much because the drag stutters and he just wasn't very impressed with the reel. ... fellas, this reel was in STOCK condition!

I couldn't believe it and just gave him a disgusted look, took the reel out of his bag, and threw it in mine for safe keeping. He was like, "what are you doing?" ... I told him I cannot believe our Editor in Chief is fishing a stock Pixy and asked what was wrong with him!

This week, I dusted off my spare parts box and managed to find one last TDZ line guide, my last set of TDZ Carbontex replacement drag washers, a bunch of the accompanying metal washers, and some spare ceramic bearings. I was going to change the knobs on his handle too, but was too lazy to take the stock ones off and found a spare Avail handle I wasn't using ready to go, so I went with that. The only upgrade missing is the levelwind bearing and spacer to replace the bushing. I didn't have spares for that, so he'll have to do without. This is, afterall, a complimentary upgrade.

Excuse the crappy cell phone photos, but I didn't have the motivation to break out my real camera and lights

Nice !

I love that handle. What’s your secret stash looking like on one of those πŸ˜‚
But really it looks great. I have a pixy on my dresser that needs some love out on the water
For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible

Zander and I must have similar tastes in reels. :big grin:
I am planning on putting those same knobs on mine one I find them.

Alright... here's a more artistic shot of Zander's Pixzilla to help do it justice. Since I've not much else better to do today, I also included some bonus shots that will likely find their way to Instagram (@caltackletour) eventually

Those pics are amazing. You must have the over ride button for posting high res pics!

Nope... nothing special about the resolution of those photos. They're just 500px x 500px πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

Sweet! My favorite pixy has always been the silver mica. I've owned at least 20 different variants over the years, and my silver Pixzilla is the only one I still own. Heres a few pics of mine that I found on my phone.

Try not to let your mind wander. It is much too small to be outside unsupervised.

What line guide is that? If I remember correct td z guide is gold.

That's a Megabass IP line guide.

Nice man =D> ... funny how the silver mica Pixy is the only one I didn't buy or keep (I may have had one at some point, can't say for sure  )
