My reels

Post by skunked » Fri May 12, 2006 4:22 pm

I had to take a pic of my reels before I sell or trade any of them.
1 daiwa alphas 103 my best reel gets to sit in front
1 curado 100D nice reel except plastic main gear makes me nervous
1 curado 200DHSV nice except too heavy
1 curado 200BSF my first good baitcasting reel.
1 scorpion 1000 nothing bad to say about this great reel
2 scorpion 1500 The reason I took this pic is because I just sold one of these
3 scorpion 1501 I am in the process of selling one of these.

Did a "casting comparison" today between the curado 200DHSV and the scorpion 1000. I call it that to make me feel better about not catching anything :P That's why I name myself "skunked"!!!!!!!!!!
Both reels are excellent casters and I did not have any backlashes which is rare for me. I would have to say that the scorpion out distanced the curado by a little, maybe 8-10 feet on a 100 foot cast. The thing that is so great about the scorpion is the external brake adjustment. What's not so hot is the nearly on/off nature of the cast control (friction) knob. This feature is very much improved on the new Curado because it uses a very fine thread compared to the older coarse thread. Fine adjustments are easy.
Next will be the scorpion vs. the alphas vs. the curado 100D.
Forgot to mention that the 7:1 ratio of the curado really zips those baits in. Also, it is a little smoother than the scorpion on the retrieve.

MORE!
Image
I really don't know how to stop myself from buying more reels that I don't even need! I live in Hawaii where we can't just go down to the local tackle store and look, touch, and feel a new reel(baitcast reels are not sold in Hawaii except for an old Chronarch at The Sports Authority that's been sitting in their showcase for years!) When I am curious about a reel, I try not to think about it, but after a while I break down and order it. I am a member of reelaholics anonymous.
The new additions are:
Daiwa TD Sol-Great reel. Casts light lures very well
Daiwa Fuego-Haven't got to try it yet but looks and feels great.
Daiwa Viento-Looking forward to using the twitchin' bar, but not expecting a great caster here.
Quantum Energy E760PT-Beautiful finish on this reel. Casts very well for a larger sized reel.
I never noticed until now that the word "fuego" is upside down compared to the word "viento".
