Zander? JIP? San Luis on Monday?
Zander? JIP? San Luis on Monday?
Thinking of hitting the main lake or the forebay on Monday morning for a little striper action. What's the latest report from you guys?
Thanks,

Capt,
You mean you're going to pull your boat out of the water and actually DRIVE somewhere else when you have that 1000 miles of waterway right in your backyard?!?!
cool! 8) best of luck!
Let us know how it goes!!!

sdesign-
Trust me when I tell you that no basser should fish on ANY three day holiday on the Delta.
If you do, do one of two things. Launch early and get off the water around 9:30am or launch out west and fish Big Break or Sherman Lake.
You simply can't avoid the pleasure boaters this weekend. They're towing ski and wakeboard boats by the droves here in Discovery Bay.
I can handle other fishing boats at San Luis. It's the wake from the other boats that drive me nuts.

Oh yah.... Capt,
I forgot - how could I forget - about the holiday weekend!!!
Actually, I learned a long time ago just to stay off the water entirely. Everything from crowds on the water, to noise, to traffic, to crowds at the launch ramp.... it just takes away all the joy for me so I stay home these days.
We used to go camping at the state parks during 3-day weekends because it was the only time friends could get together. Now, instead, we just have bbq's at each other's houses because it's just too crazy.
So is there no skiing or personal watercraft on San Luis and the Forebay? If so, I'm liking the sounds of this place more and more. Any black bass?
Ya gotta love California!!! 8)

Yes, pleasure boats and PWC are allowed. But being on a lake, you won't feel crowded compared to a narrow slough.
If you don't want to deal with them at all, go up to Pardee. No bodily contact with the water at all. East Bay Mud owns that water, and they don't want anyone tainting it before it gets to SF. In fact, they have many floating port-a-pottys on the lake scattered in the coves.
All species of fish caught on the delta can be caught in the Forebay. And yes, there are black bass in there.

Thanks Capt,
I figured anything that can be found in the Delta you'd find in the Forebay, but since I rarely hear anything about the other species, I thought I'd ask.. thanks! ... I realize the Striper are the prize though - as well they should be.
I'll stick to the backyard BBQ's for the three-day weekends
And Pardee has been on my list for a long time.. one of these days. Usually, though, if I'm headed out in that direction, Camanche gets my attention.
best of luck my friend!

First, the Delta, we rarely fish it during normal weekends and never even
try on long weekends because of the reasons Capts mentioned.
Capt, big louie or small? Forebay is still productive, but winds are really
high right now. San Luis Res. is windy as well, white caps at times,
but the fish are hitting on every drop according to a buddy of mine.
But he's a saltwater fella and uses a downrigger there. He couldn't
get them to bite lures after he went through his bait. He didn't mention
which area he fished though.
Are you headed down there with your bass boat?

Yeah, thinking of towing my bassboat down there. I'll probably hit the main lake since I can find places to duck out of the wind in some of the coves.
I plan on tossing artificials only. No trolling or bait fishing. If it sucks, I'll just go home!!

Yeah, the good thing about San Luis is that there are coves you can hide
in, but the water is extremely low, unless they have pumped in
more water since last weekend.
Anyways, post a report in the Fishing Reports forum when you get back,
good or bad. Have fun out there!

Oniell is still my preference for tossing lures. The lake is so shallow that you can pull in Stripers from just about every point on that lake. Also capt is right, on both lakes they do have every species the delta has...and there is the opportunity to catch a nice big bass in there....they are well fed and look like solid footballs. Though I rarely focus on bass over there I have ripped up some pretty big ones while targeting stripers.

Thanks for the additional input Zander... I'm definitely adding the forebay to my list of lakes to hit - someday. Could be a nice change of pace when I want to hit a lake instead of the Delta, and I think the drive is pretty easy and close compared to Sonoma or Camanche. We'll see.... thanks!

Don't worry you will get plenty of action there. Just make sure you are in shape before you headout . I have had days with some friends on the boat where we catch 70+ fish in 1 day. Most times it will be schoolies but occasionally in the deeper waters we will catch 20+ pounders.
