Salmon Fishing bite in Monterey is still not hot

Post by Zander » Mon Apr 21, 2003 12:16 am

Hi guys,

Went Salmon fishing today in Monterey. Spent most of the day a few miles off the stacks, and with about of 16 people on the party boat only 2 fish were landed all day! Luckily one of those was mine, hooked into a good sized salmon from 70 feet down early in the day. Lost two more later in the afternoon. Definately run some fluro like Seaguar, I got a lot more hits then the others.

I think the bite will heat up later in the month. I hope...

Well it looks like it is going to be a good year after all. thes season really heat up over the weekend with many boats coming up with near or complete limits. Fishing has been good as close to Moss landing and anglers have been doing well with crippled anchovies. Most of the fish taken are from 15-19 lbs in size, with the occasional fish just over 20.

Definately a must go if you are in the area.

THanks guys. Too bad the salmon is all gone now... It tasted great!
BTW what kind of salmon was it? The meat is somewhat redder than the sushi salmon...

You caught a "KING" salmon also known as "Chinook" salmon.
There feeding on KRILL right now and that is why the flesh is REDDER.
