What line

Post by stevenhatchy »

Do you use for inshore fishing for trout and reds? I currently use Ande Premium mono in 12 lb test for my top waters and twitchbaits and seaguar abrazx fluorocarbon for my jigs. I have been pretty satisfied with their performance, but I wanted to make sure that I'm not missing something. I only use baitcasting reels and I like micro guide rods, so I don't want to use braid or a leader. Abrasion resistance is the most important factor to me, but it doesn't hurt if the line has good cast ability for long casts on the flats.

Recommendations?

Not sure that I can help. I use braid w/flouro leader. Minimum 20# test on the leader and some times as high as 50# if there bluefish around. The big reds seem to destroy the line if they suck the lure all the way down, which they seem to do. I lost too many lures using straight 12# mono. I don't use micro guide rods so the leader knots are not a problem.

Twisted leaders connected with bimini twisted PE works for me. I find a twisted 20lb handles better than a single 40lb and is more abrasion resistant.

I’ve been using (Diamond) Momoi’s Hi-Catch mono in 12# fg it has excellent abrasion resistance for the rough oyster shell bottom we have here in the south.

I use 30lb 828 and 20-30lb fluorocarbon connected with a sebile knot. It works very well.

+1 to this. Though I mostly use 15 or 20 lb braid. After using braid for years the stretch associated with either flouro or mono just gets on my nerves every time I've tried it recently.

I've standardized all my spools with 50m of 20lb Pe for standard spools and 30m of Pe 0.4 for shallows.
Both use around 2m of mono to tie onto arbor.
Then depending on my requirements I put on mono, FC or top shot Pe/FC from there.
It takes time to setup but speeds up respools on the water. Gives me more control over a big fish with as stretch is limited to the topshot. When using mono and FC however I like to put enough on so the longest cast will not run into the PE.

Powerpro braid has never failed me. The only thing is dislike is that it loses color after a season and I get worried if it will start to break down. But some reels I change my line after a few years of use just to be sure.

I have gone to 10lb Fins Windtamer braid with about 6ft of Floro on all 6 of my inshore spinning rods. No Windknots and you can cast a mile. Never just breaks for no reason like mono due to age etc.

I use 20 lb power pro with 20 lb fluoro leader because where I fish there are tons of oyster beds so you abrasion resistance.

I always go very light. I use 6lb nanofil and 10 lb. power pro with 15lb. fluoro leader. I attach leader with a jt knot that I think will go through micro guides. Not sure, I only use spinning tackle.

I like power pro too, and Johnson & Johnson supreme waxed dental floss!

I've been a fan of nanofil but am leaning more to power pro lately. Will definetly use a leader in clear water. On a recent striper trip my 2 buddies and I were all throwing the exact same spoons. The water was shallow and very clear. I was using 6lb. nanofil, 1 buddy was using powerpro tied direct and 1 was pp slic using a fluoro leader. My buddy with the fluoro leader caught a striper 4 drifts in a row and we caught none. My buddies then switched rods and the one using the fluoro leader caught one. I managed one on our last drift. It also seemed the 10lb pp slic was casting farther then my 6lb. nanofil. I plan to test and see if that is the case.
