Surf Fishing Tackle?
Surf Fishing Tackle?
Hi guys, I was wondering what do you surfcasting anglers use ?
Here in my country I use a 11 feet rod with 1.8-3.6 oz range.
As a reel I use an abu garcia 6501C4 loaded with dam sumo beach nylon .30 .
Thats my main flounder fishing gear, and sometimes I use it to go for other fish too.

Re: Surf Fishing Tackle?
When im down in FLA or LA I use my spinning gear that I use for bass fishing. Usually for spec trout, reds, flounder, jacks, ladyfish, smaller tarpon, and I have a great time with that lighter gear using 3/8 oz jig heads with some DOA terroreyez or DOA shrimp.

Here you must use a long rod , 11 feet is ideal , because you must cast a pretty good distance , and the rod must be able to fight the waves, that are very strong

Re: Surf Fishing Tackle?
Here , its not an issue of relaxation lol , to fish flounder, you must find it. in my country we have made a lot of innovation in flounder fishing , because its one of the most cool fish to catch from the shore, if you are interested I could tell you how do we fish it , I think it could be usefull for you
Re: Surf Fishing Tackle?
yeah post it NGOLES!!! i'm always up for new methods tell us how you fish for em
Re: Surf Fishing Tackle?
In the Atlantic, a longer rod (9' and up) is a must for bait fishing both for long casts and to keep your line up out of the waves. On the gulf side, where I'm at, you can get away with a short rod because it's mostly calm.
Most anglers use spinning gear.

seem to have forgotten a reel style here. the good old alvey sidecast is one of the best beach fishing reels around as sand does not destroy them like it does to other reels. best reel for baitfishing. spin or overhead for luring.

I've surf fished all over the U.S. for the last 30 years and have never seen anyone using one of those reels??BARRAMANIAC wrote:seem to have forgotten a reel style here. the good old alvey sidecast is one of the best beach fishing reels around as sand does not destroy them like it does to other reels. best reel for baitfishing. spin or overhead for luring.

Looks like a good one. I fished a lot of Flounder when I was stationed in Japan. Good Job!

Re: Surf Fishing Tackle?
For surf fishing I use a St. Croix Avid 9' rated 4-8lb line TwinPower 2000s 6lb line for grubs. This guy catches Corbinas, Perch, and Halibuts (haven't caught a legal one yet though). I will probably replace this combo with a Twinpower 1000.
For Jerkbait bait, I use a St. Croix LT jerkbait special rod, a Daiwa Alphas and 10lb Sunline Machine Gun Cast. I cast LC Flashminnows 95, Megabass Edonis and catch halis and bay bass.
For sharks and rays, I used a Breakaway 10'6 Rod, Daiwa Emblem Pro, and 20lb of Sufix Superior line.

The Alvey reel is made in Australia. I have seen a review on one in the TT reel archive.manasota wrote:I've surf fished all over the U.S. for the last 30 years and have never seen anyone using one of those reels??BARRAMANIAC wrote:seem to have forgotten a reel style here. the good old alvey sidecast is one of the best beach fishing reels around as sand does not destroy them like it does to other reels. best reel for baitfishing. spin or overhead for luring.

Re: Surf Fishing Tackle?
I just bought a bunch of Daiwa telescopic rods (two 9' and five 14') that I will be using for surf fishing. I plan on getting a Daiwa Power Surf QD 5000 to go along with one of the rods.
