Lubing Hedgehog ZR bearings
I got a set of Hedgehog ZR spool bearings. One side of the bearing does not have a shield but it does have a bearing retainer. Do I simply drip oil on that side to lube it?

Yup! One small drop is all it takes.

Thanks!
Re: Lubing Hedgehog ZR bearings
I want to say my HH's were pre-oiled, but I can't say for sure 100%. It might have been the ZPI's...but double check, as too much oil can slow them down.
Re: Lubing Hedgehog ZR bearings
Yes, they are pre-lubed with Alechemy oil. I cast heavy 1/2 ounce plus lures long distances all day. The medium light Alchemy oil is awesome, and it is light enough that you don't have to worry about too much oil because the extra lube will get pushed out of the non-shielded side after a few casts. The heavier oils and double shielded bearings of yesteryear were more of an issue with over-oiling.
Re: Lubing Hedgehog ZR bearings
I put two of these in my SLX and what a difference.

Re: Lubing Hedgehog ZR bearings
Not saying anything bad about HH, but if you got the bearings out of the SLX and soaked them in some brake cleaner for 5 mins and llow to dry and one drop of oil - same results.
The spool bearings in standard Shimano reels are quiet good.

Oh, I know. I have 14 Shimano reels, various models up to the Chronarch MGL. The ZR's still made a differnece in the SLK.
