i read that since gears wear together, that you need to mark a spot on the pinion and a spot on the drive gear so when you reassemble them that they go back just as before, what is the best way to mark the gears. a picture would help.

and what is the benefits/downsides to having a 2 slotted pinion gear vs a 1 slotted pinion gear?

Are you talking about Daiwas when you said:

If so, read the Inside the Steez article in the Review Archive. The JDM Steez has two slots at 90 degrees to each other for reengaging with the spool pin.
