Ultimate Tuner Reel
Ultimate Tuner Reel
What reel responds best as far as doing all the mods and ending up with a great performing, lightweight, best bang for the buck reel??? Response could be broken down by manufacturer.

Re: Ultimate Tuner Reel
shimano curado 100B or citica 100Dbundy wrote:What reel responds best as far as doing all the mods and ending up with a great performing, lightweight, best bang for the buck reel???
daiwa millionaire cv-x103a
any of these can be found for under $100, new spare parts are easy to get, and there's quite a few choices for upgrades including different spool options (wiffle spool and/or ceramic spools) and bearing-supported handles.
once tuned these reels will keep up w/ the high-end models costing 2-3x more...
Re: Ultimate Tuner Reel
Haha, b/c Daiwas need all the mods they can get to be worth a dang!!bundy wrote:Hmmn, all Daiwa so far. Anyone modding Shimano reels?
J/K, kinda....you can mod Shimano Scorpions, Curados, Chronarchs, Calais, whatever. All reels respond well to mods, but to see a big performance difference it just depends on how well the reel performed before the mods
Re: Ultimate Tuner Reel
Alphas Line/Pixy.
Re: Ultimate Tuner Reel
Most reels will show some improvement with a few mods.
IMO the most improvement shown is with = Alpah , Pixy, TD-X, Sol.

Although not lightweight or lowprofile Abu round reels are highly tunable.

Depends on how in love you are with the reels.bruce S wrote:I have one or two old TD-X laying around , what could be to it,

I have a TD-S 103HL that I absolutely love. It's a little heavy and bulky, but it pitches and flips very well and fits my hand to a T.
Even though it's an older(discontinued), inexpensive reel I upgraded it with ZPI SiC spool bearings and Smooth Drag drag washers and it made a night and day difference. Even more so than doing the same mods to my TD-Z reels.
I think the TD-S and X reels benefit more from these mods because they use lower grade components to begin with.
Now would I spend the extra $$$ to put a ZPI handle on my S reel? The idea of a bearing supported handle is tempting, but the cost is not.
