Alpha F or Pixy mod

Post by bundy » Sun Sep 30, 2007 5:18 am

Has anyone changed the gear ratio to 6.3. I'm looking for a lightweight finesse reel but I would like to see Daiwa offer these in faster retrieve.

bundy,
The problem is that Daiwa hasn't offered many low profiles with 6.3:1. This especially true in low weight gear sets -- and the Steez is the only one that comes to mind that fits that class. Unfortunately, the Steez drive gear is too thick (resulting in too much height under the handle plate), and the required distance between pinion and drive gear is a little too big to fit in the Pixy or Alphas F frame. In addition, the Steez pinion gear is a bit too long, and doesn't move as far as required in the Pixy, to allow proper engage/disengage with the spool (although I didn't try different yokes).

...just my recollection of an initial attempt.
