Grease or oil the drive shaft bearing?
Grease or oil the drive shaft bearing?
Would greasing give a more connected feel in the handle? Or is oiling it to get a faster feel better for a reel that will be used mostly for flipping?

Honestly, grease will most likely serve you better as the parts around it are greased. Oil may make it's way to the greased parts around the bearing and may cause seperation, a mess, and some prematurely-worn parts. Just my 2 cents.
JDM quality is unsurpassed. Period.

I asked Bantam the same question on the Shimano forum and his response was either way is fine.
Re: Grease or oil the drive shaft bearing?
Oil for bearings and grease for gear teeth. Grease in the bearings will reduce casting distance, but could be smoother. Any grease or oil on the interior of the pinion gear will reduce casting distance.
So when oiling any of the spool bearings try and eliminate any oil overflow.

Driveshaft bearing should be greased because it is succeptable to water intrusion. It doesn't need to spin fast like a spool bearing. Well, another reason is I have a neat bearing greaser tool just for shaft bearings and pinion gear support bearings.

+1 The only bearings that need oil are the spool bearings. The rest need grease. It makes the reel smoother and the bearings last longer.Texas_bullet wrote:Driveshaft bearing should be greased because it is succeptable to water intrusion. grease is smoother, and protects

Re: Grease or oil the drive shaft bearing?
from what i've learned, only oil on the spool bearings and the daiwa blue oil is the best
