To do all parts on a reel I use 2 or 3 brushes. About $.75 to $1 ea.Finnz922 wrote:how long do the brushes last?

Re: Polish this !
Has anyone used the felt heads? I have a bunch of cone ones that came with my Dremel i was gonna try out?
Re: Polish this !
Felt bits work well on larger flat surfaces. They actually have a lot of friction which polishes well but you will need the brushes to fit into the small spots and gear teeth.

Re: Polish this !
LOVE the results in the Original post... Couldn't do without my dremel for supertuning... The brushes are a great idea for the pinion gear!
Re: Polish this !
Have you noticed any reduction in drag when you are using dry carbontex and polished metal washers?
I have a feeling that dry Carbontex will "slip" on polished washers. This is what I observed on one of my reels so I stopped polishing the rest of my reels.

Don't know if these are the ones you use but the price is appealing!

Re: Polish this !
That works great
Re: Polish this !
when you consider the way the drags on a daiwa work, it seems that all of the polishing done on the main gear is purely for aesthetic purposes and will not improve the function of the reel in any way.

Mostly for show... gear teeth are for go.... actually polished flat surface gives drag disks more surface to friction on. Mostly I like the show1
Re: Polish this !
but on a daiwa there is a steel disk that sits between the bottom of the drag stack and the main gear, so there is no real contact between drag washers and the gear itself.
does polishing the teeth actually make the retrieve smoother?
i know when i tuned my luna, i just made sure to polish the angles on the pinion gear for smoother engagement, there wasn't much else to improve.

Re: Polish this !
heres my first attempt at polishing the gear and clutch on my super free chrony, might i add as you polish and a black film develops on the brass thats a good thing....at first i hesitated cuz i thought i was doing something wrong but a quick tip from my neighbor reminded me to keep going. i used a fresh brush to remove the black film and there appeared before my eyes a beautiful sight!
