How to paint a reel...(just my way!) Part 1
How to paint a reel...(just my way!) Part 1
I dont know if it is the right forum, but i think it will work here...
Shot some pictures of my last reel re-painting project...here is a step by guide for all your freaks out there.
Please try at you own risk!
Subject: Steez and PX 68
First you have to dismount the complete reel. Clean all grease with alcohol. Do NOT use something stronger like acetone...will kill the plastic sideplate!
This thing is called air eraser...its like sandplasting but with a very fine and slow cutting compound (aluminiumoxide). Its like sandpaper but you bring it in every hole and edge on the reel.
...watch the steez logo!
1x sandplastet: ...grey, the finish is gone.....2x :the real color can be seen...
3x...there is the basecoat....enough!

Re: How to paint a reel...(just my way!) Part 3
Clearcoat.....and a bigger airbrush....please use outside or in a well ventilated room!
....the coat must be filtered for a smooth look...
two reels, one color, but two finishes...one glossy and one matt/flat
all parts again need to dry 48 hours...
Re: How to paint a reel...(just my way!) Part 4
and the steez in flat black...more pics when the reels are send back to the owner and be put together again! Hope you like so far....
...and here is a first look on the metal parts i anodized of the steez! (please notice the laser-engaving is still a 100% visible/ in the front-right corner)
This thing will look like Darth Steez in the end...
...pictures will follow, when put together...

The Steez looks stealth. Very nice work and great pictures.

Nicely done, educational, enjoyed the tutorial.
Re: How to paint a reel...(just my way!) Part 1
Good job on both. You did a real good job laying down that clear.

Thanks Nurgle. I painted a couple of reel seats on my rods and maybe used a lower end DuPont clearcoat because the sunblock on my hands actually ate away at it. I'll give 2K a try.Nurgle wrote:@ Ong Jim

Might be a compatibility issue with the clear not curing fully.Ong Jim wrote:Thanks Nurgle. I painted a couple of reel seats on my rods and maybe used a lower end DuPont clearcoat because the sunblock on my hands actually ate away at it. I'll give 2K a try.Nurgle wrote:@ Ong Jim
