How to paint a reel...(just my way!) Part 1

Post by Nurgle » Sat Sep 17, 2011 9:41 am

I dont know if it is the right forum, but i think it will work here...
Shot some pictures of my last reel re-painting project...here is a step by guide for all your freaks out there.
Please try at you own risk! ;)

Subject: Steez and PX 68

First you have to dismount the complete reel. Clean all grease with alcohol. Do NOT use something stronger like acetone...will kill the plastic sideplate!

This thing is called air eraser...its like sandplasting but with a very fine and slow cutting compound (aluminiumoxide). Its like sandpaper but you bring it in every hole and edge on the reel.

The Steez looks stealth. Very nice work and great pictures.

What kind of clearcoat did you use?

Thanks Nurgle. I painted a couple of reel seats on my rods and maybe used a lower end DuPont clearcoat because the sunblock on my hands actually ate away at it. I'll give 2K a try.

Might be a compatibility issue with the clear not curing fully.
