A few questions for Abu guru's ( round reels )

1. Will the thumb rest from a record fit on a 5500 c3?
2. Will a record wiffle spool make a big difference?
3. Will that spool require diff bearings and shaft?
4. Would I need therefore 50 or 60 spool?


Just looking for some input from someone who has made the swap.
I have already put a bearing everywhere you can except for the handle
And it is next on my list.

#1 is a YES but I don't think the spool off any record will work on a C3 ???? different spool shafts and bearing placement. GOOD LUCK, ck the schmatics to see if it will work.

have you upgraded to 2 bb levelwind and bearing supported idler gear?

Yes, I have the dual bb levelwind, new spool bearings, bearing cog, polished here and there, I got an idea today I may drill out my cog like this one.

I've installed the RCN40 spool on a 4600 and a V spool on a RCN50. To put the wiffle spool on a 45-46xxx you will have to remove the spools IAR and use the shaft for the 45-4600, so you can use the axle clip.
To put the 4xxx-5xxx spool on the record you will need to replace the side plate bearings with bushings you do not want the axle to spin anymore, and use the std 4xxx-5xxx axle and axle clip. To make it a ultra cast.

The axles are the same size but the RCN axle does not have the end notched to retain the axle clip. The STD. 4xxx-5xxx axle will work in the records. Since it does not use the axle clip the notch doesn't matter.

The bearings will be the same size.
RCN40 spool for the 4xxx size
RCN50 for the 5xxx size

It looks like one from either Mikes reel repair or a Patriarch XT. They would both work.
