Daiwa Sol nut removal tool

Post by igl00jx » Wed Feb 15, 2012 7:13 am

Purchased a used LH Sol off of an auction site. It didn't come with the handle nut removal tool. Where would I be able purchase the tool?

Best bet is a private party. I've inquired to Daiwa and they do not sell them.

Other option would be to contact (Email) a JDM shop like Plat and see if he couldn't find one for you (the tool was the used for the Orange Pixy model also). Tools and items like that appear to be more readily available in that market than here.

Thanks for the reply. That's unfortunate on the Daiwa front. I will contact Plat and see what they can do.
Thanks again

The sol handle nut is a awkward idea to me. It's really heavy (something you don't want in a bass reel) and it requires a special tool when just about every other baitcaster uses the same size wrench. Luckily, you can easily swap out the whole handle assembly. There are a lot of options out there, all the Pure Fishing brand reels use the same size shaft(Lews, Revo, BPS, Pfleuger, ect.) You can order the whole handle assembly with the nut, retaining plate, and screw pretty cheaply from the BPS reel repair department. Also, you could get a nice carbon fiber handle from Daiwa's RCS line, but you'll need to buy the knobs too. You can easily spend more than what you paid for the reel itself  !!!

Of course, the swept drag stars wont fit on a Sol--they are a little too tall will rub against the side plate. You can easily bend the stock star so it clears a swept handle if you go that route. I have a Sol with a BPS Prolite Finesse handle assembly on and it works nicely. I think the whole thing cost less than 20 bucks!!! You could always swap the original stuff back when you go to sell the reel....

the Sol handle nut is the same one they used for my Saltist 30T conventional and the JDM CVZ-100SF power handle i ordered for one of my Millionaires.

and it just so happens that quite a few Penn reels use the same shape nut, so if you dont want to overspend on a pricey specialty tool you can just pick up one of the several Penn wrenches that will work fine for just a little over $1 :

wrench 168-60 or 168-9 or any wrench compatible w/ a Penn 500 Jigmaster ;)

Actually, the Alphas R edition swept drag stars will fit. I assume they can still be ordered from Plat.
