Trick to removing C and E locks?
Do you destroy these when you take them off or is there a trick to it? What's the best way to get them off? Prying with a flat head screwdriver didn't work. Thanks
Re: Trick to removing C and E locks?
I Just jam my thumb nail on one end, and push the other end off with a screwdriver.
Re-use them again & again.

I use an Exacto knife or small bladed screwdriver both are in my reel repair kit.
Another trick I use is an old speaker magnet to keep screwdriver tips magnetized.

Do it in a big, clear plastic bag.

Thanks for all the tips. I'll give it a shot.
Re: Trick to removing C and E locks?
Walmart sells a set of Stanley picks with screw driver type handles on them. In the set are straight and angled tips. I use the one with a 90 degree tip and then just hook the clip with it and pull it off. The idea of doing it in a plastic bag is a good one. Then can take off. I put them back on with small pair of hobby needle nose pliers. After I line it up just gently squeeze it on.
Re: Trick to removing C and E locks?
picks and blades to remove e-clips is like using pliers to loosen a handle nut - not ideal and setting yourself up for tool marks or worse
years ago i spoke w/ a real reel mechanic who gave me a great tip on removing e-clips w/o scratching up your reel, i'll see if i can post up a short how-to video online...

I guess I am fortunate since I have not damaged anything in the four years I have been pulling them off. Once hooked they just come off with litle effort.

well, i did a quick online search to see if anyone had already posted a video and surprisingly found nothing that i would consider close to the method i learned.bstuckey wrote:You tease.
and i notice how whenever this topic comes up the reel techs on the forum are strangely silent... maybe it's an industry secret

finally done... this little project took more time than expected, as my hosting site for unknown reasons would not play the footage in original format
