Repair a kick lever?

Post by eyra_kid » Mon Aug 20, 2012 10:45 am

Long-time reader here. HAve learned a ton over the years.

I ran into an issue with a kick lever on a discontinued Quantum PR600CX. Kick lever has a gouge or groove where it contacts the trip ratchet cog gear. So the kick lever skips on the trip ratchet but doesn't engage reel from freespool.
I have called all over the country looking for a replacement part, but nobody has one. I'm down to trying to repair it. I believe the kick lever is pot metal so I don't know if it can be welded to build up that small area. I know pot metal is difficult to impossible to weld. I have my doubts that something like JB Weld would hold up. Any suggestions?

Silver solder might stand up, Just get it hot enough to melt the solder. I would say brazing might also work.

Or get friendly with a machinist. :big grin:

Thanks for the suggestions. Going to talk to a welding shop at lunch. Will see what they say.
