Supertuning a old Chronarch 101A.

Post by muskyhunter » Thu Aug 30, 2012 3:53 pm

I have a Chronarch 101A Bantam that i would like to upgrade the handle and knobs. It's has upgraded carbontex drags and the bearings are all upgraded. It's a great reel and can compare to any of the newer reels.

The only thing i don't like about it is the handle. What aftermarket handles can i get?

T he handle cap holds the drag clicker so my other handles don't work.

Excuse my ignorance but what can be gained from changing out the handle on a reel? I was wondering this and then I saw your post so I figure you would know. Thanks

Although this reel has 7 bearings is has zero bearings on the handle. Changing to a 4 bearing handle would make this reel amazing.

Well i put a large aluminium handle on the Shumano Chronarch 101A and added 4 bearings to some spare eva knobs.

It's crazy how smooth this reel is after supertuning. It now has 10+1 bearings and casts lures above 1/4oz like no other reel. Tested it out and it casts even better than my supertuned T3!

This just found it's home on my St.Croix MH M 7" cranking rod.

Mods include Boca 7 OS bearings (side plate, spool, and tension knob), Carbontex Drag Upgrade, and new handle with 4 bearings.

Got to thank Nitroman77 for getting me all the parts needed.

Those 101A's look really nice, I wish I had been buying those 10 years ago instead of the Curado B's. I'd have no problem fishing those still. Nice job.

Very cool. That Chronarch platform is still one of my favorites.

You can find them on ebay or local tackle store.

I recognize the knobs(revo premier), But I have never seen an extended handle for a Shimano. Handle looks like a Abu winch, But I tried mine and it is too sloppy on the Chronarch.

I PM'd nitroman77 for info.

The knobs are premiers with 4 bearings. The stock handle has zero.

Use the BPS replacement handles work fine with Shimano reels.

You then just replace the stock knobs and bushings with your own knobs with bearings!
