Steez spool bearings

Post by cuke » Tue Mar 29, 2016 9:09 pm

My friend is cleaning some Daiwa reels for another friend and called me to ask what bearings should he buy and as I'm not sure, I'm putting it out there to you guys. The spools make a slight noise when you real fast then hit the thumb bar but my STEEZ's do the same with abec 7's.

Also wondering what kind of stock bearings that Daiwa uses in their STEEZ baitcasters

ZPI SiC bearings are the best for the money. They are quiet, smooth, and cast very well. Stock bearings most likely are a stainless Abec 5 at best.

If I can help you with any, let me know. Thanks, Bryan

The ZPI bearings are nice indeed. I prefer the Hedgehog AIR or new AIR HD depending on the application. You can't go wrong with either really as both are a very nice upgrade over stock.

I have 2 sets of Air HDs right now. So far so good with the time I've had on them. The regular Airs went bad fast. Especially after cleaning them. Maybe it was just a bad set. For throwing anything under 1/2 ounce the Air BFS is a great choice too

Hedgehog Air BFS for finesse. If he plans on casting 3/8 and above more frequently the Hedgehog Air Ceramics

He ended up getting boca abec 7's since he had 8 reels to do. And I'm still wondering what bearings daiwa uses in their steez especially.

In my Steez SV Limited I know Daiwa use

SLPW BB bait spool kit freshwater dedicated bearings, which I like by the way.

I have both, and I like Hedgehogs Air hybrids over ZPI's. Smoother, longer rotation.

See I have the opposite experience. The HH are smoother, but the ZPI spin longer in a freespool test. We all know how scientific that is though

I assume very "scientific" if next bearing set of the same brand might have different freespool time
In ZPI's I don't like that plastic shield they use to cover one side.
I recall the balls are slightly bigger too.

Awesome news for me! I ordered a set of these a few weeks back from Japan tackle...these are the non-ceramics that are really cheap correct? Can't remember but around $10 a set...if so i hope it carries over to my Steez SV. My old Steez Limited could really cast!

What would be the benefit of using the micro bearings as I didn't know they had such a thing
