daiwa alphas gears

Post by mrpao » Wed May 18, 2016 1:32 pm

Will the alphas 7.2:1 gears fit in a pixy?
Has anyone gone this swap?
Lastly what all is needed for the swap other than the gears?

I am 99% sure they will be a direct swap into the pixy. The only variable thus far would be the drag stack. Once Daiwa releases these parts to purchase separately, that is one of my top projects to try.

If I get some time I plan on doing this swap. I have an Alphas SV I can use the gears out of to test it. Just havent had the time to do it...on the list!

Drag stack is different with the 7.2 gears vs the other two? Interesting :-k

I swapped 7.2s into a px68 along with the yoke that the 7.2s have and it was a direct swap. The pixy runs the same yoke as the 5.8 alphas sv but the 7.2 yoke is a different design.

What all did you have to swap?

Just the gears and yoke. Drag stack and all other parts are good to go.

Excellent!

The only reason I questioned the drag stack was the height/thickness. Thank you for confirming the direct swap.

Sweet! Gives me hope for a faster CV-Z/Monoblock. Are you listening Daiwa/MB?

I didn't get the yoke part number.

They were allowing back orders last time I talked to them.

is this right hand, or left?

also, i probably order from daiwa at least once a week......and bug them each time about parts for the SV reels. the 7.2's will fit in the pixy, and use the same drag stack as the 6.8 and 5.7 sets. when i tried the 7.2 set in the pixy, i also used the new yoke that has the extra 'foot' on the back. i am uncertain as to whether or not it will be necessary to have this part installed with the gears. if not, that would certainly suggest that the 7.2 gears would also work in millionaires and monoblocks :)
