Bearings for SV spools

Post by vncnt » Sun Oct 23, 2016 3:43 pm

I'm upgrading my Alphas type-F and Luna with sv spools. I have a tdz spool in the Luna so I'm going with a Steez sv103 spool. Anyone know what's bearing changes if any I'd have to make?

Are you looking for size? I believe all SV spools use a 3x10 bearing, but don't quote me on that.

Thanks guys. I'm wondering about sizing mostly. I noticed that some of the spool and sideplate sizes changed with the sv spools

Ordered an sv spool for my Alphas type f. So, the reel currently has 11x5 and 8x3 spool bearings in it. I'm guessing I need a bearing retainer to get it to fit properly in my reel. Does anyone know if the spool comes with one?

the 3x10x4 bearing that is on the spool shaft, is in a sleeve, that bumps the o.d. out to 11mm. it should be a direct fit

Awesome. Thanks, Ian. I picked up a polished tdz type r+ spool from you for my Luna this past year. Would I see an improvement with an sv spool over the type r+ spool distance wise?

hard to say, really. the R+ is really a spectacular distance caster, if the thumb is well tuned ;)
what you WILL notice, is a much higher level of control....on a side note, i have recently been tuning A LOT of SV spools in a way that makes the distance better while maintaining the high level of control with the spool ;)

I upgraded my Luna 103L to the SV1000 deep spool (drops right in). I upgraded to Hedgehog ZR bearings at the same time. I used 3x8x4 for the side plate and 5x11x4 for the spool.

the earlier SV spools had 5mm(handle side) x 3mm (palm plate side) dia. shafts. most of the newer ones have 3mm x 3mm dia. shafts

Great info man, thanks. On a related note, would the Luna 103 spool be more considered a 1016 spool because of the shorter inductor? I'm still pretty new to tuning and all the different variants of Daiwa spools. Also, does the shaft width matter in terms of compatibility (3mm vs 5mm)?

Top: Stock Luna103 spool (SV1000 spool looks identical in dimensions)
Middle: SV 1016 spool from Zillion SV TW
Bottom: SV 103 spool from the SV103 (TD Zillion frame)
