Ultrasonic cleaner recommendation.
Ultrasonic cleaner recommendation.
Hi All,
I am looking to pick up an ultrasonic cleaner to add to my reel maintenance supplies but I’m not sure what to buy. When I look back to older posts the last replies I see were from 2014 and were for Umax branded ones which aren’t available where I have been looking.
Here are my questions:
Is there a best or minimum size you would want keeping in mind that I might want to clean things other than just fishing reels?
Heat or no heat?
Is there a minimum wattage or a specific frequency that matters?
Any other special features you would want if you were buying again?
There are over 500 listings on eBay atm and I am having trouble narrowing things down. Thanks for your help.
PS I also saw ScoobyDoos YouTube video on the waterpik and will likely get one of those too.

Re: Ultrasonic cleaner recommendation.
I got a $40 one from Amazon, worked really well but quit in about 6 months. Contacted the company and they sent out a brand new one no questions asked, which again works great. So I think I would recommend that one.

I have the same unit as rockchalk06. I'm going to use it to clean bearing and gears, using acetone. How long should I run it for those things?
Re: Ultrasonic cleaner recommendation.
Good old Coleman fuel from Walmart. $8 for a gallon or something, and it lasts a LONG time. I have this guy ... I purchased it 4/5 years ago. I have cleaned a many of reels for myself and loaned it out to a friend a couple of times with no issues what so ever. The heater is a nice feature when cleaning bearings and grease from gears. It will get hot enough to not be able to stick your hand in it if you leave it on long enough.
Also the size is pretty generous for multiple reel parts at the time. I use smaller plastic containers to set on top the steel screen/tray it comes with to prevent anything from scratches.
I typically run a 50/50 mix of simple green and water with a generous amount of original Dawn dish liquid to help keep excess oils/grease/trash pushed against the walls of the US not to get back onto my parts when lifting them out.
Good luck with your search !

Another friend has this unit with the same results. Purchased at our local Harbor Freight. Specs seem to be the same just with a plastic tray. To be honest I think it is the same US cleaner that is just branded differently ...

Re: Ultrasonic cleaner recommendation.
Get the Umax, mine is used all the time, and after 5 years it is still humming away.
Get your kids hooked on fishing, and they'll never have any money for drugs or alcohol.

I am thinking I may get one like this:
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/New-Stainless-St ... 1438.l2649
I think the larger size will allow me to clean the carbs from my small engines in addition to reel parts and should make it more useful in the long term.
