What came first, centrifugal or magnetic brakes?

Re: braking
Gonna guess here... Abu first with centrifugal, and then Daiwa first with magnets later on???
Why is there a concerted effort of hate? And why is it allowed?

Re: braking
Thanks. I don't remember braking on the casting reels I had back in the '50s. In fact, they didn't even have a free spool, just a click or no click setting.
But they are everywhere now. Thank goodness!!!
The thing that gave me the courage to try a baitcaster again was the externally adjustable centrifugal brakes.
I now have reels with both systems, and can't imagine using a reel without them.
I really prefer just centrifugal brakes. For me, they are much easier to control and can be adjusted much more easily, too.

Re: braking
I think centripetal brakes came first. The 1946 Cycloid Micromatic hade an external centrifugal adjustment.

I think magnetic braking came a year later. The Bristol Electromatic as well as the Ocean City Inductor were released in
1947-48.
