Zillion SV Pinion Bearings Sleeve/Collar

Post by MountainMan 83 » Sat Oct 26, 2019 2:45 pm

Just got my first Zillion SV and tore it apart today. Now, I'm wondering what is the reason behind the pinion bearings collars? I can see they extend out past the width of the bearings and maybe aid In alignment a bit, but isn't this just like a bushing? The handle side collar was a PIA to get out. It now has a chip out of the lip.

It is a galvanic corrosion protection.
Galvanic corrosion (also called bimetallic corrosion) is an electrochemical process in which one metal corrodes preferentially when it is in electrical contact with another, in the presence of an electrolyte. A similar galvanic reaction is exploited in primary cells to generate a useful electrical voltage to power portable devices.
