Daiwa Capricorn 2000 bail

I've got an OG Capricorn 2000. I got it new in box this past year, however within the first trip the bail spring would not fully pull back the bail even by hand the bail would pull open enough on a snag or fish that the line would come off the roller and pull out from the spool. Anyone run into something like this with the older Daiwas? Any fixes?

Sounds like the bail spring may have lost its recoil memory. Theres a good chance this is the problem, since you say it was new in box. That reel was discontinued about 2006, so it has sat for a long time. Not sure as to parts availability on that one, though.
