SV103 Spool Tuning
SV103 Spool Tuning
Finally got around to install the Ray's inductor into my SV103 spools. The Ray's inductor is tapered and noticeably thinner and lighter (almost 1g lighter). The length is still the same. While I had the inductor apart I added a Type R+ spring as well.
These two additions really wake up the reel. I only did some backyard casting with a weightless super fluke and 3/8 oz chatterbait but it was significantly noticeable. Casting is more free and needs more brake to slow down the spool now. Brakes needs to be around 5.5 to 6 to stop overruns. The stock spool I could leave it at 2 or 3. Overall, very happy with the results.

Very nice! I did something similar to mine and added an r+ spring and removed material off the rotor on a lathe. Spool is much more usable in my hands. I should get a couple of these kits to play around with.

I've just did the exact same mod but haven't tried it out yet. Glad to see you are getting noticeable results

I have replaced the rotors on several reels with that kit, both SV105's and SS SV's.

I'm not sure if anyone has noticed or not, but the black Ray's inductor is a little different. The black one tapers about the same but the base is thicker. It's almost identical to an R+ inductor, whereas the gold one is a little thinner at the base. I'll try to get some measurements today.

The black ones are the ones I used. They work really well.adam lancia wrote: ↑Mon Apr 13, 2020 5:12 amI'm not sure if anyone has noticed or not, but the black Ray's inductor is a little different. Re: SV103 Spool Tuning
Good deal. It took me a minute to figure it out. I put the gold inductor on a spool and it really, really loosened up, way more than I expected. I changed it up to my thumb being less than adequate (not an unlikely scenario). It wasn't until I had a gold and black inductor side by side that I noticed the difference. I put the black inductor on the same spool and it was more manageable.

Re: SV103 Spool Tuning
Anyone know where I can get the black Ray's studio inductors? Can only find the orange.
Re: SV103 Spool Tuning
I would like to know where I can find the black Type R like inductors. The gold ones are basically the same as what is on the Pixy Airy red. They are very thin and tapered.
