Megabass Rod Fix?

Post by Winstondry » Sun May 17, 2020 7:02 pm

Not sure where to post this, here or under Maintenance. I have several Megabass JDM rods with either sticky rubber coating on the reel seats or peeling finishes.

Has anyone come up with a fix on how to eliminate the sticky rubber finish?

That happened to me with a Super Red Demon. Needless to say, I was not a happy camper. I couldn’t tell you how that could be repaired without major rod builder intervention.

This issue happens with a lot of those reel seats that have that "soft touch" rubberized finish to them. On some I've been able to use soap and water to gently clean them up, but it doesn't always work. Will have to try the baking soda trick bassassaurus recommended... I wet sanded it off on one stick using 600 grit sand paper, but i didn't get all of it. Such a nuissance

Thanks Bassaurus, I’ll have to give this a shot. Do you make a paste out of it, then rub it on?

Thanks for moving to the correct forum, Cal.

yup. you make a paste and rub it on. then leave it for 10-15 min and then wash off. hope you'll be happy with the results.
