Shim/Washers to Tighten Knobs
Shim/Washers to Tighten Knobs
Moved a lot of handles and knobs around recently to find they have a bit of give and wobble. Could really use a shim. I searched old threads and found 4mmx7mmx.5mm is the preferred size. Unfortunately I cannot find these anywhere. I found one steel washer on eBay that claimed to be 4x7x.8mm, but the picture looks off. I assume it is just a stock picture, but I cannot find these shims ANYWHERE. My handle knob screw is all the way tight and the knob has just a bit of play. Maybe switching the stock .5mm out for a .3 would work?

These should work
This is what I found. Much cheaper and thicker too. Scared I would need all those Roros for just one knob.

.8mm is over .030", that is a lot of play to take out, they may be too thick and bind. I guess you can use locktite if you need to back the screw out a bit.

Thanks Nicky, I ended up getting some from a place called gobilda.com. Got some .25mm and .5mm to help tighten up the knob play. Was only $13 for a bunch.Nicky wrote: ↑Fri Apr 01, 2022 12:51 pmThese are what you want.

You can make your own shims for cheap as chips if you have a hole punch and sheet stock. I get copper sheet stock from McMaster Carr in thicknesses up to 1mm and it punches very easy. A feeler gauge is used to check how much slop I may need to take out.
